An emotional music night, celebrating the 30th anniversary of the founding of the band Buc Tuong, took place on the evening of June 14 at the Vietnam Cultural Center in Paris.
The music party, with the most successful works of the legendary Vietnamese rock band, brought generations of Vietnamese audiences in France back to their youthful memories and connected with their homeland through music.
When the first melodies of The Wall rang out on the stage of the Vietnamese Cultural Center in France, the atmosphere in the auditorium immediately became lively and hot, in harmony with the songs "Going Out to Sea," "Soul of Stone," "Glass Rose," "Petrified Woman," "Road to Glorious Days..."
This is not just a regular music night, but the return of the legendary Vietnamese rock band after 22 years of absence in France, an opportunity to reunite with the hearts that have loved, cried and laughed with the immortal melodies of The Wall over the past 30 years.
Mr. Tran Tuan Hung - the lead guitarist and leader of Buc Tuong, could not hide his emotion when sharing: "22 years ago, Buc Tuong came to France to perform once at the Vietnam-France Festival in Cahors city. At that time, we thought that we did not know when Buc Tuong would have the opportunity to return here again."
The concert has even more special meaning as it is part of the first tour in Europe, celebrating the 30th anniversary of The Wall.
Speaking at the birthday cake cutting ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to France Dinh Toan Thang affirmed: "The Wall has shown itself to be not only an icon, but also a legend, and a band that is very representative of modern Vietnamese music. Thirty years of The Wall are 30 years of true dedication from many generations of musicians in the band."
Remembering musician Tran Lap, the band's founder, the Ambassador expressed his wish that Buc Tuong "will continue to grow higher and higher to dedicate to the audience wonderful music nights."
Indeed, on the journey from a student band founded in 1995 at Hanoi University of Civil Engineering to the Vietnamese rock monument today, Buc Tuong has experienced many ups and downs.
With the first name - "The Wall," Buc Tuong overcame the hiatus period from 2006, then reunited in 2010 with a new spirit and especially the regretful departure of "soul" Tran Lap in 2016 left an unfillable void.
The success of Buc Tuong was honored by Billboard Magazine (USA) in 2021, praising the group as "a pioneer, rich in humanity and opening a new wave of rock for Vietnam."
That humane journey has left deep feelings in the hearts of the public, not only domestic audiences but also Vietnamese people living far away from home.

Mr. Nguyen Khoa Van, a former student of the University of Construction, shared with emotion: "I was also a student of the University of Construction in the past. And in the period of 1995-2000, we were also die-hard fans of Buc Tuong because the members of this band were all students of the University of Construction.
This time, hearing that The Wall was going to France, my friends and I were determined to go to listen to it again, to remember the time more than 30 years ago, to return to our youth."
This affection does not belong to just one generation. Ms. Duong Thanh Nga, representing the 8X generation who has lived in France for 25 years, confided: "The band Buc Tuong is our whole youth. From the time when there was still Tran Lap and everything."
Ms. Nga said that many friends came from the provinces just to attend this music night and then had to return the next day.
The dedication and affection of the audience moved the entire band. Leader Tran Tuan Hung noted: "Many people came from hundreds of kilometers, thousands of kilometers and even neighboring countries. They brought a very warm spirit and affection. It was like welcoming a familiar person back to them."
The music night is not only an entertainment program, but also has profound cultural significance. Mr. Tang Thanh Son, representative of the Vietnam Cultural Center in France, emphasized: "The Vietnam Cultural Center in France has always been the home of the Vietnamese community, a place to introduce the cultural identity of Vietnam to international friends. Rock is a world phenomenon that has penetrated Vietnam and the band Buc Tuong is one of the most famous bands in Vietnam for generations 6X, 7X, 8X, 9X."
This is also the first time the Center has organized a performance by The Wall, with the aim of creating an opportunity for the Vietnamese community in France to meet and exchange."
Throughout the concert, the audience enjoyed immortal songs that have been associated with the name of The Wall for the past 30 years.
From early hits like "Road to Glory," "Black Eyes," "Glass Rose" from the SV96 era, to more mature works in their famous albums.
In particular, the presence of veteran members such as Tran Tuan Hung (guitar, leader), Vu Van Ha (guitar), Pham Trung Hieu (drums) and new member Tang Xuan Kien (bass) has created a Wall that both carries the old soul and has a new breath.

The show lasted nearly four hours, but according to the band, they felt "so excited and just wanted it to last longer."
However, the band members agreed that "it shouldn't be too long so that the audience feels a little bit lacking and we have the opportunity to come back to Paris another time."
The concert in Paris is just the beginning of The Wall's ambitious European tour. After Paris, they continue their journey to Prague (Czech Republic) on June 19 and Berlin (Germany) on June 21. This is also The Wall's first tour in European countries.
The band representative shared with confidence: "We are ready to conquer the next places... These will be shows that I know will be as wonderful and emotional as tonight."
The Wall Music Night in Paris has proven the power of music in connecting Vietnamese hearts around the world.
Even though they have been away from their homeland for decades, Vietnamese audiences still find in the music of Buc Tuong the pure emotions of youth, of memories and of love for their homeland.
As shared by leader Tran Tuan Hung: "The Wall always brings its spirit, bringing values in music to spread to the Vietnamese community, to connect the cultural values of Vietnamese people living far from home as well as in the country."
After 30 years, from a student band to a Vietnamese rock icon, Buc Tuong has proven that they are not just a band, but a part of the collective memory, of youth and of Vietnamese cultural identity.
The concert in Paris is the clearest proof of the enduring vitality and endless appeal of "We Are The Wall" - a solid musical wall, connecting Vietnamese hearts around the world./.
