Strengthening management of lobster farming areas

The Aquaculture Research Institute III has just conducted monitoring in some aquaculture areas in the province and has some recommendations for lobster farmers.

 

Accordingly, farmers need to lower the cages to a suitable water level, increase the shade of the cages with nets to reduce the impact of temperature on the health of farmed shrimp caused by the heat. Hang lime bags around the cages (about 2kg of lime/bag) to limit high vibrio spp density. Thin out the density of lobsters in the cages to suit each stage of shrimp farming, clean the cage nets, collect leftover food after each time the shrimp eat, keep the distance between the cages to create ventilation, increase the ability to exchange water inside and outside the cages, reduce the loss of dissolved oxygen in the water... Farmers need to prepare aerators, oxygen tanks in case the farmed shrimp are overwhelmed due to low dissolved oxygen locally; collect mollusk shells during pre-processing and after the shrimp have eaten to limit the anaerobic process at the bottom and sedimentation at the bottom of the farming water area.

 

Currently, the pathogen causing milk disease monitored in farmed lobsters in Song Cau town (in Xuan Phuong and Xuan Yen wards) accounts for 16.7%; the bacteria causing red body of lobsters (in Xuan Phuong and Xuan Yen wards) accounts for 33.3%. When detecting signs of disease in farmed shrimp, farmers can use technical solutions to treat the disease for the shrimp, and at the same time add probiotics, vitamins, and minerals to the shrimp's feed to improve the resistance of farmed shrimp.

 

According to the forecast, the weather in Phu Yen in the coming time will be showers in the late afternoon and at night, hot during the day, and some places will be extremely hot. Farmers need to regularly monitor the weather to have timely measures to avoid the heat for farmed lobsters; do not place cages in places with a water depth of less than 8m, ensure the distance between the cage and the water surface is more than 2m; monitor the farming environment, the activities of farmed shrimp and proactively prevent diseases for shrimp such as milk disease, red body disease, etc.
