Here, Dr. Nguyen Huu Phu, Vice Principal of Duy Tan University, informed the family of Gac Ma veteran Duong Van Dung about the school's decision to award a full scholarship to the youngest daughter of Gac Ma veteran Duong Van Dung, Duong Thi My Linh (21 years old). According to Dr. Nguyen Huu Phu, after learning that the daughter of Gac Ma veteran Duong Van Dung was studying at the school, Labor Hero - Meritorious Teacher Le Cong Co, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Duy Tan University, decided to waive the entire tuition fee of more than 120 million VND for this "special" female student.

"For a long time now, with the thought of helping the families and children of comrades and those who have worn the uniform of soldiers and sacrificed their blood and youth for the Fatherland..., teacher Le Cong Co has decided to award a full scholarship to student Duong Thi My Linh to show gratitude to Gac Ma veteran Duong Van Dung", Dr. Nguyen Huu Phu shared.

Moved by the news that her daughter received a full scholarship, Mrs. Tran Thi Loi (57 years old), wife of Gac Ma veteran Duong Van Dung, said that since her husband passed away, she has been waking up early to do business at Hoa Cuong wholesale market (Hai Chau District, Da Nang City).

"When my husband passed away, Linh was in 8th grade. I worked hard to wake up early to sell and come home late at night to support my two daughters' education. Now that I'm older, selling at the market is difficult, and I have to work hard to earn money for my daughter to go to university. The annual tuition fee makes me very worried... Now that the school has awarded me a scholarship, I am truly grateful," Ms. Loi confided.

Mrs. Tran Thi Loi (57 years old), wife of Gac Ma veteran Duong Van Dung, was moved when she heard that her daughter received a full scholarship.

Talking about her dream, Duong Thi My Linh said that after studying accounting and auditing at Duy Tan University for 2 years, she decided to transfer to the Faculty of International Tourism. However, to pursue her passion of working at the airport, My Linh was very worried, afraid that her family's finances would not be able to cover the tuition fees for the next 3 years of study.

"I am studying a foreign language to pursue my passion. When I heard that the school would award me a full scholarship, I was very moved... the image of my father appeared again, making tears roll down my face," My Linh said.

In mid-March, Gac Ma veteran Duong Thi My Linh and her mother were moved to see the relics her father left behind related to the fight to protect the Fatherland's sovereignty in Gac Ma (March 14, 1988 - March 14, 2024).

Gac Ma veteran Duong Van Dung is the only one out of 10 Navy soldiers in Da Nang City who participated in the Gac Ma battle (March 14, 1988) in Truong Sa archipelago to survive and return home after a long time of being imprisoned by China.

After returning to Vietnam, Mr. Duong Van Dung got married and had 3 children, but in 2011 his only son died in a traffic accident while in high school. His already difficult life was hit by a big "disaster", causing Mr. Dung to collapse. Later, Mr. Dung was diagnosed with cancer.

After a long battle with cancer, Gac Ma veteran Duong Van Dung passed away on February 26, 2017, at the age of 51.
