The center of Lai Dong commune is becoming increasingly modern and well-equipped.
Walking along the winding streams in Lai Dong commune, the gentle sound of the flowing water blends with the joyful sounds from small-scale livestock farms, helping this mountainous commune gradually transform. Implementing a national target program, a pilot project for raising native stream ducks has been launched for 10 poor and near-poor households in the area.
Each household received support in the form of 150 piglets, along with guidance on building enclosures, feeding methods, and strict disease prevention and control procedures. With this timely support, the local people boldly shifted from the old, small-scale, free-range farming methods to developing concentrated, commercial farming, gradually taking control of their family's economy .

With suitable terrain and natural conditions, Ms. Luyen's duck flock thrives, opening up a promising direction for building a local OCOP product brand.
Ms. Ha Thi Luyen's family (Vuong 2 hamlet) is one of the households receiving support and is also a positive and pioneering factor in investing in expanding the scale of their farm to develop a sustainable economy. After more than two months of caring for the ducks according to proper technical procedures, the flock has grown quickly and is swimming happily in the clear stream water. This initial success not only brings a "visible" source of income but also opens up a promising direction for building an OCOP product brand called "Lai Dong Stream Duck".
Ms. Luyen shared: “Previously, due to lack of capital and knowledge of disease prevention, duck farming was unstable. Now, thanks to the government providing good breeding stock and the guidance of agricultural extension officers, the ducks are growing quickly and healthily. Thinking about the upcoming batches of ducks to sell, which will bring in more income to support our lives and provide our children with a proper education, we are very happy.”

The OCOP product, Xuan Son morning dew tea, received financial support for label design and packaging improvements, helping to increase its price and competitiveness in the market.
Alongside the challenge of directly supporting production development, national target programs also pay special attention to building brands and enhancing the value of distinctive local products. Leaving Lai Dong and venturing into the mountains to Xuan Dai commune, the rich, slightly bitter yet sweet aroma of young green tea buds seems to captivate travelers.
Here, the renowned Xuan Son morning dew tea product received financial support for professional label design and improved, eye-catching packaging, enhancing its competitiveness in the market. Completing the product's brand identity not only affirms the quality and reputation of this highland tea but also opens doors to connecting with major supermarkets and distributors, aiming towards building a sustainable agricultural value chain.
Ms. Ha Thi Thanh Nguyen, Secretary of the Party Branch of Du area, Xuan Dai commune, said: “Since receiving support with machinery and equipment for processing specialty tea and guidance on making complete packaging and labels, the value of local tea buds has increased significantly. The commune members and people in the area are very happy, no longer worrying about their tea being subjected to price manipulation. With a stable market and higher selling prices than before, the income of tea farmers is becoming more stable, and their lives are improving day by day.”

New life in the once-challenged land of Xuan Dai.
From models of raising ducks in streams and cultivating crops to developing strong OCOP products, it is evident that production methods are being flexibly implemented, adapting to the soil and climate conditions of each region. Initially, there was some initial uncertainty, but thanks to the synchronized and decisive involvement of the entire political system and the unity of the people, the poverty rate among ethnic minority households in the locality has decreased by an average of about 3% per year – a telling figure that demonstrates the tireless efforts.
Comrade Dinh Thi Tuyet Mai - Secretary of the Lai Dong Commune Party Committee emphasized: “In the process of deploying resources, we always adhere to the principle of putting the people at the center, so that the people know, discuss, participate, inspect, and benefit. The commune focuses on directing the construction and replication of production models suitable to local strengths, while flexibly and effectively integrating various programs and projects to create a synergistic force, helping people feel secure in their livelihoods and rise out of poverty sustainably.”
Prioritizing resources for particularly disadvantaged communes and remote areas is creating positive changes, fundamentally transforming the face of rural mountainous regions. The increasing number of effective and practical livelihood models is the "golden key" helping people overcome poverty.
This also provides a solid foundation for successfully achieving the goals by 2030: the average income of ethnic minorities reaching approximately 70% of the provincial average, essentially eliminating poverty according to the multidimensional poverty standard, and building a prosperous life in highland villages.
