Focus on the fight against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods

STO - That was the direction of comrade Lam Hoang Nghiep - Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Steering Committee 389 of Soc Trang province at the Conference on deploying the peak of the fight, preventing and repelling smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods, and infringement of intellectual property rights in the province organized by the Provincial Steering Committee 389 on the morning of June 2 at the Provincial People's Committee. Attending the conference were comrades members of the Provincial Steering Committee 389.

In the first 5 months of 2025, the Provincial Steering Committee 389 has proactively implemented a plan to combat smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods, thereby detecting and strictly handling many violations. In 5 months, functional forces in the province conducted 634 inspections and checks; 10,293 patrols and controls. Thereby, 138 violations with 202 subjects were detected. The number of administrative violations handled was 86 cases, collecting over 1.2 billion VND to the state budget. 44 cases/69 defendants were prosecuted, including: 4 cases/4 defendants transporting contraband goods, which are smuggled cigarettes; 40 cases/65 defendants storing, trading, and organizing illegal use of narcotics. Confiscated goods included: 33,210 packs of smuggled cigarettes; 159.01 grams of synthetic drugs; 4.49 grams of heroin; 20 grams of marijuana; 4,658 kg of functional foods; 375.2 kg of milk; 1,508 products and 989.6 kg of cosmetics; 191.7 kg of modern medicine and a number of other violating goods.

In addition, implementing a peak period of fighting, preventing and repelling smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods, and infringement of intellectual property rights in accordance with the direction of the Prime Minister , the authorities organized 31 inspections and examinations, handled 3 administrative violations, and collected a total amount of money to the state budget of over 82 million VND.

At the conference, members of the Provincial Steering Committee 389 proposed solutions to effectively implement the peak month of combating, preventing and repelling smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods, and infringement of intellectual property rights according to Official Dispatch No. 65/CD-TTg, dated May 15, 2025 of the Prime Minister; difficulties and obstacles in performing tasks, in handling infringing goods...

Concluding the conference, comrade Lam Hoang Nghiep acknowledged the opinions and recommendations of the members of the Provincial Steering Committee 389. The Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee said that recently, the functional forces nationwide have discovered many violations of counterfeit and poor quality goods, causing confusion and anxiety, directly affecting the health and lives of the people. Thereby, he requested the functional forces to focus on the fight against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods, in which the inspection forces of each department and branch must improve their professional qualifications, skills, political courage, sense of responsibility... in performing their tasks. Continue to promote the dissemination of laws to enterprises, production and trading establishments of all types of goods in compliance with the law. Coordinate with the press to widely disseminate the fight against counterfeit goods, trade fraud and counterfeit goods... and the handling of violations. Strengthening coordination of inspection, surprise checks and post-inspection work... to stabilize the market, always ensuring the quantity of goods to serve the shopping and consumption needs and the rights and health of people in the province.
