Yen Bai - After the Lunar New Year holiday, farmers across the province are urgently heading to the fields to begin spring planting. Ensuring adherence to the planting schedule is crucial for the healthy development of rice plants and minimizing risks from unfavorable weather conditions.

Yen Bai : Highlands enter spring planting season.
Farmers in Yen Bai actively head to the fields to sow and plant spring rice.
These days, from early morning, farmers in various localities have been heading to the fields for the start of the year's production. The sound of plows and the murmur of voices in the fields blend with the spring breeze, creating a vibrant scene of labor. In Minh Quan commune, Tran Yen district, the atmosphere of production is very bustling.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Sen from Linh Duc village said: "My family proactively sowed the rice seedlings early and carefully covered them, so when the weather warmed up, we immediately started transplanting. Currently, I am finishing the remaining area to be on time for the planting season." Sharing the same sense of urgency, Ms. Tran Thi Hoa, another farmer in the commune, shared: "We prioritize using short-day rice varieties that are resistant to pests and diseases to ensure high yields. After Tet, taking advantage of the warm weather, my family sowed and transplanted the entire 4 sao (approximately 0.4 hectares) of rice fields."
To ensure high production yields, the agricultural sector advises farmers to choose varieties suitable for weather conditions and market fluctuations; and to focus resources on completing planting within the correct timeframe. In addition, to protect spring rice from the cold, localities should minimize early spring planting and maximize late spring planting using short-day, high-yielding, high-quality rice varieties that are resistant to pests, diseases, and adverse environmental conditions.
Furthermore, it is necessary to closely monitor pests and diseases and implement effective control measures right from the seedling stage. Besides technical solutions, localities are actively directing the implementation of large-scale field models, single-variety fields, and production linkages to form large-scale concentrated production areas; building and replicating high-quality production linkage models along the value chain linked to processing, ensuring food safety and hygiene to create a large volume of goods, linking production with the consumption of high-quality products.
According to Mr. Pham Dinh Vinh, Deputy Head of the Provincial Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, localities have so far sown and planted 9,078.4 hectares of rice, reaching 48.29% of the plan. Despite severe cold spells at the beginning of the season, thanks to the effective implementation of technical measures, both transplanted and sown rice seedlings are developing steadily. "Given the forecast of prolonged severe cold spells accompanied by frost and ice, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has issued a directive to localities to strengthen response measures. Farmers are advised not to sow seedlings or transplant rice on days when the temperature drops below 13 ° C."
In addition, measures such as covering seedlings with plastic sheeting, maintaining the thickness of the mud layer in the fields, applying well-rotted organic fertilizer, and early topdressing when the weather warms up are all being promoted. Furthermore, localities are also proactively preparing reserve seed supplies to respond promptly when damage occurs,” Mr. Pham Dinh Vinh emphasized.
Currently, farmers are focusing on caring for newly transplanted rice seedlings in the fields to ensure they take root quickly and grow well. When the weather is favorable, measures such as early fertilization with well-rotted organic fertilizer and nitrogen fertilizer are also implemented to stimulate vigorous tillering. With decisive guidance from the agricultural sector, proactive efforts from local authorities, and the enthusiastic labor of farmers, this year's spring rice crop promises to be successful, contributing to food security and increasing people's income.
| This spring, the entire province plans to plant over 18,800 hectares of rice; of which, hybrid rice accounts for about 55% of the area with popular varieties such as: Nhi Uu 838, Thai Xuyen 111, Phuc Thai 168, QL301...; purebred rice accounts for about 45% of the area, including varieties such as: Huong Chiem, Seng Cu, TBR225... |
