Quang Nam: Fishing boat sinks after being hit by another vessel approximately 18 nautical miles off the coast of Nui Thanh district; three fishermen rescued by another boat.
At noon on May 20th, Captain Ho Thanh Tam, 56 years old, residing in Tam Quang commune, Nui Thanh district, reported to the Ky Ha Border Guard Station. His boat set sail on May 15th with three fishermen. On the morning of May 20th, the boat anchored to rest at sea.
"Around 8 a.m., everyone was asleep when suddenly a cargo ship heading north rammed the bow of our boat. The boat broke apart, and water flooded in. We used our Icom radio to contact Mr. Ho Van Luong's fishing boat, which was three nautical miles away, to ask for help," Mr. Tam recounted.
Three fishermen then jumped into the sea when only the bow of the ship was afloat. Mr. Tam said that despite the fishermen shouting, the cargo ship did not stop. All the seafood caught, worth about 60 million dong, along with the ship, valued at 500 million dong, were left stranded at sea.

The Ky Ha Border Guard Station has documented the incident and coordinated with the Quang Nam Maritime Port Authority to compile a list of cargo ships passing through the area where the fishing vessel was in distress and potentially involved in a collision. Verification at 7:50 AM confirmed that the ASIA EXPRESS ship, flying the Panamanian flag, was passing through. This cargo ship is expected to arrive at Hai Phong port on May 21st.
