"A Chinese aircraft carrier group Shandong passed through the western part of the Taiwan Strait in a southerly direction today, June 21," Taiwan's Defense Ministry said in a statement, according to AFP.
Taiwan's Defense Ministry said the territory's defense forces "are closely monitoring air and sea movements and will respond accordingly." There has been no related information from China.
The Shandong aircraft carrier last passed through the Taiwan Strait in May. In March 2022, the Shandong aircraft carrier passed through the Taiwan Strait, just hours before Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Joe Biden had a phone call.

The Shandong aircraft carrier was also deployed in drills hosted by Beijing in April, which involved fighter jets carrying live ammunition to conduct simulated attacks around Taiwan, according to AFP.
The drills were part of Beijing’s response to Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen meeting with US House Speaker Kevin McCarthy in Los Angeles on April 5. Beijing had warned before the meeting that it would provoke strong countermeasures.
Also since the meeting between Ms. Tsai and Mr. McCarthy, China has increased the presence of warships and aircraft around Taiwan, according to AFP.
