Vietnamese frigate Tran Hung Dao commanded a group of five warships performing formation maneuvers in the ASEAN-India exercise in the East Sea.
Nine warships divided into two tactical groups left Singapore's Changi Port on May 5 to head to the South China Sea to participate in the ASEAN-India Multilateral Maritime Exercise (AIME) 2023 on May 7-8. The exercise includes activities such as tracking foreign ships, formation maneuvers, maritime logistics, and helicopter takeoffs and landings.
Vietnam's HQ-015 Tran Hung Dao frigate belongs to the No. 1 tactical group with the Indian stealth frigate INS Satpura, the Philippine frigate BRP Antonio Luna, the Malaysian KD Lekiu and the Indonesian Navy's KRI I Gusti Ngurah Rai.

The frigate Tran Hung Dao fully participated in the drill and commanded the warships in tactical group 1 to complete the formation maneuver, while coordinating and sharing information with other ships to ensure safety.
After the end of AIME 2023, warships from ASEAN countries will arrive in Subic Bay, Philippines to participate in the ASEAN Naval Fleet Review (AFR) and the 2nd ASEAN Naval Multilateral Exercise (AMNEX-2).
AIME 2023 takes place from May 2-8 with the participation of 9 naval ships, 6 aircraft and more than 1,800 members of the armed forces of ASEAN countries and India. The exercise is divided into two phases: onshore in Singapore and in international waters in the East Sea.
During the onshore phase at Singapore's Changi Naval Base, participating forces conducted ship visits, boarding, search and seizure, humanitarian assistance, and disaster relief.
Vietnamese Ambassador to Singapore Mai Phuoc Dung said on May 5 that this is the third time Vietnam has sent naval ships to participate in a joint exercise between ASEAN and India to strengthen cooperative relations and demonstrate Vietnam's foreign and defense policy in enhancing stability, peace and cooperation with countries in the region and the world.
The Indian Navy said that the AIME 2023 exercise will help India and ASEAN member states "increase cooperation, understanding and confidence building to address common maritime security challenges at sea".
