This is an impressive figure announced by the Department of Agriculture at the Conference on reviewing crop production in 2025 and implementing the Winter-Spring crop production plan for 2025-2026 chaired by Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Minh Lam, which took place on the morning of October 15.

The total rice cultivation area in the province in 2025 is estimated to reach more than 702,000 hectares, with an average yield of 5.88 tons/hectare. Other short-term crops such as cassava, vegetables, sugarcane, corn, etc., along with fruit trees and industrial crops, will develop stably with a total output of more than 5.3 million tons.
Many crops bring high economic efficiency such as durian with profit of 290 - 600 million VND/ha, banana 180 - 300 million VND/ha, lemon 150 - 180 million VND/ha, custard apple 170 - 230 million VND/ha.

In addition, the province currently has more than 3,300 hectares of VietGAP-certified production, 509 hectares of GlobalGAP and 32 hectares of organic production; 415 growing area codes with a total area of 16,731 hectares and 179 packaging facility codes meeting export requirements to demanding markets such as Japan, Korea, EU and China.

The high-tech agricultural program continues to expand with more than 69,000 hectares of rice, more than 2,100 hectares of vegetables, more than 5,800 hectares of dragon fruit and more than 4,100 hectares of lemon produced according to advanced processes, helping to reduce costs, increase productivity and profits for farmers.

In particular, the province has deployed 13 low-emission rice production models under the Project of 1 million hectares of high-quality, low-emission rice associated with green growth in the Mekong Delta, with an area of 268 hectares, initially bringing clear results, increasing profits from 1.5 to 5 million VND/ha.

According to the forecast of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from now until the end of 2025, the ENSO phenomenon will maintain a neutral state and tend to shift to a mild cold phase. This year's floods are forecast to reach alert level III, high tides will fall in October to November 2025, potentially affecting areas in the Dong Thap Muoi region. However, saline intrusion in the 2025-2026 dry season is forecast to be approximately the average of many years, and fresh water resources will still be guaranteed for production.

On that basis, the Department of Agriculture has proposed a flexible winter-spring rice production schedule for 2025-2026 for each region. Phase 1 (from October 10 to 20, 2025) applies to border hill areas, where there is a risk of water shortage at the end of the crop; Phase 2 (from November 8 to 18, 2025) is for medium-land areas, areas with closed dikes; Phase 3 (from December 5 to 20, 2025) applies to low-lying communes and the remaining areas of the province.
According to the plan, in the 2025-2026 Winter-Spring crop, the whole province will plant 289,600 hectares of rice, with a yield of 6.6 tons/hectare and an output of 1.91 million tons. In 2026, the whole province plans to plant 682,000 hectares, with an output of more than 4 million tons.

To successfully produce the 2025-2026 Winter-Spring crop, Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Minh Lam requested that sectors and localities focus on directing production, ensuring that growth in Region I in 2025 reaches 4.3% or more, contributing to achieving the target of 9.3% economic growth in the whole province.
At the same time, synchronously deploy sustainable development solutions, especially the Project of 1 million hectares of high-quality, low-emission rice associated with green growth in the Mekong Delta; continue to expand the area of high-tech application, strictly manage growing area codes, packaging facility codes, strengthen trade promotion and link agricultural product consumption.
Faced with the situation of flood water levels in communes in the Dong Thap Muoi region continuing to rise, complex weather developments and the risk of impacts from storm No. 12, he requested the Department of Agriculture and Environment and local authorities to focus on synchronously implementing response solutions, including reinforcing dikes, protecting production, and proactively implementing the "4 on-site" motto to minimize damage to people./.
