Ahead of the Halle Open final, despite shockingly eliminating world No. 1 and defending champion Jannik Sinner in the second round, Alexander Bublik was still ranked by experts as the underdog against Daniil Medvedev - the tournament's third seed.
However, that skepticism did not make the Kazakh player waver. On the contrary, he entered the court with incredible confidence, with his improvisational playing style and "artistic" handling that made his brand.
In the first set, after dominating his serve in the early games, Bublik created an impressive streak of 12 consecutive winning points. And he quickly ended the first set.
Bublik fought back from 0/30 to hold his serve and lead 4-3, then produced a brilliant return game with a succession of powerful shots. A backhand down the line earned him the first break of the match.

After winning the first set, Bublik's form dropped off in the second set when he made five double faults. However, just when Medvedev thought he could force the match into a deciding set by leading 4/1 in the tie-break, he made two backhand errors in a row.
With the mental advantage he had, Bublik did not miss the opportunity, serving firmly to complete the victory in just 81 minutes, officially winning the Halle Open 2025 championship. This was not only an important victory but also the first time Bublik defeated Medvedev after 7 confrontations.
More notably, Alexander Bublik became only the third person in the 32-year history of the Halle tournament to win the title more than once.
Specifically, Bublik is in the same league as legends like Yevgeny Kafelnikov (3-time champion) and Roger Federer (record 10-time champion). This is a memorable milestone, affirming Bublik's position on the grass court.
