Tennis player Nguyen Thuy Linh excellently entered the round of 16 of the world championship

Vietnam's number one badminton player Nguyen Thuy Linh continued to make a strong impression at the 2025 World Championships when she won the right to enter the round of 16 in the women's singles. She became the only representative of Vietnamese badminton to participate in the third round of the 2025 World Championships.

In the second round taking place today (August 28), Nguyen Thuy Linh excellently defeated her opponent Kirsty Gilmour (Scotland), who is ranked 31st in the world, with a score of 2-0. This was not an easy match as Gilmour has good physical strength, a quick playing style and had won against Thuy Linh at the Indonesia Open last year.

Entering the match, Gilmour started strongly and quickly created a 5-point gap, leading 7-2. However, Thuy Linh was not shaken. She adjusted the tempo, promoted her ability to control the shuttlecock and finished accurately to level the score at 10-10. From there, the Vietnamese player proactively controlled the game, took advantage of counterattacks and won 21-17, creating an important advantage after the first set.

Entering set 2, Thuy Linh started smoothly when she continuously led the points. Gilmour showed the mettle of an experienced player when he pursued fiercely, continuously pressing the court in long-term shots. However, Thuy Linh still kept her composure, playing tenaciously in the key points. She closed the set with a thrilling 23-21 victory, completing the overall victory 2-0 and officially entering the group of 16 strongest players of the tournament.

Previously, in round 1, she made a big splash when she eliminated former world champion Ratchanok Intanon (Thailand, ranked 10th in the world) with a score of 2-0.

In the next round, Vietnam's number one tennis player will face the winner of the match between Chen Yu Fei (China, world No. 4) and Mia Blichfeldt (Denmark, world No. 26). These are all strong opponents, especially Chen Yu Fei, a tennis player in the world's top group with a lot of experience in major tournaments. However, with stable performance and high spirits, Nguyen Thuy Linh is expected to continue to create surprises.
