Taylor Swift won four awards, including “Best Artist,” “Best Performance,” “Best American Act,” and “Best Video ” for her song “Fortnight,” featuring Post Malone.
Early morning of November 11 (Vietnam time), the 30th MTV Europe Music Awards (EMA) took place in Manchester (UK), when outstanding female artists dominated the awards system, especially Taylor Swift.
The popular pop singer won four awards, including “Best Artist,” “Best Performance,” “Best American Act” and “Best Video” for her song “Fortnight,” featuring Post Malone.
Taylor Swift, who is currently on her "Eras" tour in North America - one of the highest-grossing tours in history - sent a video thanking her fans from afar. She emotionally said: "I can't believe the miracles you've done for me this year."
Not only Swift, other female artists also left a strong mark at the awards ceremony. Sabrina Carpenter won Best Song with her hit “Espresso,” surpassing big competitors like Beyonce, Billie Eilish and Ariana Grande.
South African R&B singer Tyla also made a strong impression when she took home three awards including “Best R&B Artist,” “Best African Artist,” and “Best Afrobeats Artist.”
This year’s ceremony also featured a number of K-pop acts. BLACKPINK’s Lisa won Best Collaboration for “New Woman” with Rosalía and the Biggest Fan Award. BTS’ Jimin was named Best K-pop Artist, continuing BTS’s success at the EMAs.
As MC of the awards ceremony, singer Rita Ora emotionally paid tribute to her late friend Liam Payne - former member of the band One Direction, who passed away last month.
In a choked voice, Ora shared: “Liam was a great friend, and his passing is a great loss for us all.”
The concert also featured a special tribute to hip-hop legend Busta Rhymes, who was awarded the Global Icon award. Busta Rhymes set the stage on fire with his hits “Break ya Neck” and “Touch it.”
“To be recognized on this international stage is proof that hip-hop culture knows no borders,” he said in his acceptance speech.
Pet Shop Boys - veteran British pop duo - were also awarded the inaugural Pop Pioneers Award for their exceptional contribution to music . The duo closed the ceremony with a lively performance with the Manchester Camerata Orchestra.
This year's MTV EMA was a shining event for female artists, as they dominated many important categories, demonstrating their great influence and constant rise in the international music scene.
From Taylor Swift with her illustrious career, to promising young artists like Tyla and Sabrina Carpenter, the 2024 MTV EMA awards ceremony is truly a night to honor outstanding talents and the diversity of modern music./.
