According to NME , the highly anticipated sequel to the popular Zelda series, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, is scheduled to be released on May 12. Although it has yet to be released to fans, the game has already been plagued by spoilers leaking images, footage and content.
Across Reddit and Twitter, never-before-seen footage of the game has been shared by users who got their hands on Legend of Zelda : Tears of the Kingdom . Some players have also been streaming the game on Twitch and Discord, however, most of these livestreams have been deleted by Nintendo within minutes of being broadcast.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Faces Leaks and Cracking Ahead of Release
Even more alarming is the recent rise of 'cracking' the game. PC Gamer recently reported that what are believed to be pirated copies of the game have been appearing on torrent sites. These unlicensed versions of the game even achieve the same 60 FPS frame rate as the official Switch OLED version.
The reason the game was 'cracked' before its release is said to be from the physical versions of Nintendo's Game Cards that were distributed to retail systems earlier than expected. From there, a number of Game Cards were 'leaked' out, causing the game to be leaked and cracked. In addition, Nintendo's security system still has many shortcomings that also make their games easy to crack.
Nintendo has been battling Tears Of The Kingdom leaks since February, when a Discord user shared information taken from a copy of the unreleased game's art book. The company filed a lawsuit in a California district court to identify the leaker and demand that Discord reveal his or her identity. The company has also pressured Discord to stop leaks from the game from appearing on the platform.
