Russian missile shows its power, Ukrainian plane hit, explodes

Images from the video released to the public show that the Russian Air Force carried out a precision strike, with Iskander-M tactical ballistic missiles apparently being used. The destroyed aircraft of the Ukrainian Armed Forces at Myrhorod Air Base could be a Soviet-made Su-27 fighter jet.

Another Russian missile hit a Soviet-made S-300PS long-range air defense system deployed in the nearby settlement of Polyv'yane. Two 5N63S fire control radars of the system (one of which was deployed on a 40V6M semi-mobile mast), two 5P85D or 5P85S transportable launchers, and a command post were destroyed.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces operated about 34 Su-27UBs, Su-27S1Ms and Su-27P1Ms before Russia began its special military operation in Ukraine more than two years ago. The Russian military shot down many of these fighters or destroyed them on the ground.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces also had about 100 S-300P, S-300PT, S-300PS and S-300V1 batteries in operation before the Russian special military operation began. The country received an additional S-300PMU battery from Slovakia a few months after the start of the special military operation. Many of these systems were also destroyed, damaged or captured by the Russian military.

In recent months, the Russian military has stepped up attacks on high-value Ukrainian targets behind the front lines, mainly using Iskander-M tactical ballistic missiles.

Iskander-M is a missile with a range of nearly 500km. The missile can be equipped with a variety of conventional warheads, including cluster warheads, fuel-air enhanced blast warheads, high-explosive fragmentation warheads, earth-penetrating warheads for bunker-busting, and electromagnetic pulse devices for anti-radar missions.

The maneuverable missile is guided by an inertial navigation system with GLONASS support. It can also be equipped with an optical seeker with area correlation system for terminal guidance.
