By the afternoon of October 9, floodwaters had basically receded on most streets in the central wards of Thai Nguyen province.
The water receded, leaving behind a thick layer of mud and a lot of garbage all over the streets.
The area of Cot Co street, Thai market… located near Gia Bay bridge is where the river overflows and flows the fastest, so it is also heavily flooded with mud, soil, and garbage.
As soon as the water started to recede, Ms. Hoang Anh hurriedly ran to her mother’s house to clean up. She said that as the water receded, the cleaning had to be done immediately; otherwise, the mud that had accumulated when it dried would be much more difficult to clean up.
On the streets, household items such as cabinets, chairs, and boxes made of water-absorbent materials like foam, plywood, and cardboard lie scattered on the sidewalks.

Preliminary statistics show that from October 7th until now, more than 200,000 houses in Thai Nguyen have been flooded, so the amount of work to clean up after the flood is huge.
Mr. Duc, the owner of a tailor shop on Luong Ngoc Quyen Street, was frustrated because all the suits his customers ordered were submerged in water and mud. The water had just receded from his house, but the street was still flooded, so he had to put his tables and chairs out on the sidewalk to wash and dry immediately.
In the context that after the flood has receded and the weather is hot again, cleaning and sanitation must be carried out urgently.

The amount of floating waste stuck together with the waste from flooded houses being collected on the sidewalks is putting great pressure on the government's cleaning work.
Police and military forces have mobilized personnel to heavily flooded areas with lots of garbage to help people clean up their houses and streets.
As of noon on October 9, no outbreaks of disease have been recorded in the province. Environmental sanitation, water treatment and disease prevention are being urgently implemented by medical units.
Thai Nguyen Provincial Center for Disease Control has directed and coordinated with Medical Centers and Commune Health Stations to increase human resources, vehicles, spray disinfectants and sterilize to ensure a safe living environment.
