Following the Ministry of Education and Training's issuance of the pilot framework for artificial intelligence education for students (attached to Decision No. 3439/QD-BGDĐT, December 2025), many localities, especially large cities and provinces with a tradition of high-quality education, have increasingly applied AI to teaching and learning in schools. Some localities have even applied AI in the education of primary school students.
However, alongside the practical benefits, many concerns are also being raised. At school age, students go to school not only to acquire knowledge from lectures. More importantly, through lectures and exercises, they learn to think deeply and find solutions to problems. Through this, they better understand the value of learning and knowledge, contributing to the formation of their ethics and character. AI models could disrupt this.
The use of smartphones among high school students is now very common. With a phone, they can easily create their own AI "assistant" (chatbot). AI models are becoming increasingly common, and most are free. The positive aspect is that students can easily access an endless source of knowledge. However, there are also significant drawbacks, especially the fact that AI can "think for" or "do" things for them. Students only need to "give commands," and within seconds, the AI can easily write essays, solve math problems, etc. This causes students to lose their critical thinking skills, creativity, and perseverance in problem-solving.
While university and college students are at a more mature age and can proactively explore the value of AI, the fact that AI models are "too intelligent" is causing concern among many experts and parents in high school. Many experts warn that the AI assistants' tendency to always agree with their owners could negatively impact students' social interaction skills.
AI offers a new approach to education . However, it is crucial to be aware of the risks to students, who may not yet fully understand the difference between right and wrong, good and bad. The Ministry of Education and Training needs to promptly evaluate the results of the pilot framework for AI education for students, adjusting necessary content to move towards issuing an official framework. Local authorities and schools should use this "framework" to specify regulations and principles for using AI with students.
