According to statistics, Thanh Hoa province still has 37,720 unidentified martyrs, corresponding to more than 39,000 relatives who need to collect DNA samples. In response to this urgent request, Thanh Hoa Provincial Police have proactively taken action with many synchronous solutions.

In the first phase, from May 12 to 16, 2025, the authorities collected DNA samples from 933 cases of biological mothers and maternal relatives of martyrs. The initial results identified the identities of two martyrs, lighting up hope for thousands of families who are still waiting for news.

Following that result, Thanh Hoa Provincial Police will launch a second peak period, from July 1 to 27, 2025, to complete the collection of DNA samples for all relatives of martyrs with unknown information in the area.

Police forces at all levels will establish working groups, closely coordinate with local authorities, the Provincial Military Command and related units to review, update data and organize DNA sampling. The goal is to create a gene bank for comparison, thereby identifying martyrs and bringing them back to their families and homeland.

The subjects of this sampling period include three groups: Brothers and sisters of the same mother as the martyr; Brothers and sisters of the sister or younger sister of the martyr's mother; Children of the sister or younger sister of the martyr.

Sample collection is organized at the commune-level police headquarters or carried out on the go for cases of poor health and difficulty in moving. The collection stations are fully equipped with ID data reading devices, ensuring proper technical procedures, medical safety and confidentiality of personal information according to regulations.

To complete this humane task, Thanh Hoa Police coordinated with the Department of Administrative Management of Social Order (Ministry of Public Security) and GeneStory Company to deploy 10 centralized sample collection stations and hundreds of mobile teams.

Through the campaign, Thanh Hoa Provincial Police affirmed their determination to complete the collection of DNA samples throughout the area, making a practical contribution to the cause of paying tribute to martyrs, a sacred responsibility not only of the police force but also of the whole community.
