Visiting Thanh Luong commune, Van Chan district in early June, one can easily witness the bustling scene of labor across the fields. Under the morning sun, farmers in the villages are busily harvesting rice. The golden, heavy ears of rice promise a bountiful harvest. Not far away, on the fertile fields, rows of plump, fruit-laden watermelons are ready for harvest, with motorbikes and carts constantly coming and going, transporting the produce.

This sweet success is the result of the hard work and diligence of the farmers and the close and effective guidance and support from the local government in developing agriculture and improving people's lives. For the 2024-2025 winter-spring crop, the total area planted with rice in the commune reached 140 hectares, with an estimated yield of 55 quintals/hectare, and a total production of 770 tons.

Comrade Ha Van Doan - Chairman of the People's Committee of Thanh Luong commune shared: "To avoid disrupting morale and work due to the merger, Thanh Luong commune has determined that it must fulfill its nhiệm vụ, focusing on leading the people in economic development, accompanying farmers in labor, production, cultivation, and livestock farming. This year, unfavorable weather due to climate change has resulted in prolonged cold spells and little rain from the beginning of the year to the beginning of May. Therefore, agricultural production has been very difficult. In response to this situation, the commune has promptly directed the dredging and maintenance of irrigation works to prevent water shortages. At the same time, the commune has strengthened the transfer of technology, guiding people to proactively adjust planting seasons, select seeds, improve soil, control pests and diseases, and apply fertilizer to minimize damage caused by adverse weather. Currently, farmers are harvesting rice and other crops and preparing the land to plant chili peppers, cucumbers, and watermelons for the upcoming season.”

Alongside crop cultivation, Thanh Luong commune actively maintains and develops the livestock sector, preventing disease outbreaks and making a significant contribution to local socio-economic development. The total livestock population in the commune currently reaches 820 animals, including 200 buffaloes, 100 cows, and 520 pigs. The estimated output of live meat for slaughter is 65 tons, of which 60 tons come from main livestock. Disease prevention and control measures are implemented systematically. In April and May 2025, the commune completed the vaccination of 413 doses of rabies vaccine for dogs and 50 doses of hemorrhagic septicemia vaccine.

Vaccination and screening continue to be implemented to ensure the safety of livestock in the area. In addition, the commune is actively implementing livestock support programs.

In particular, during the period of 2023-2024, from the National Target Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction, Thanh Luong received 13 buffaloes and cows for poor households. Currently, veterinary officers regularly monitor and provide technical guidance on care, ensuring the long-term effectiveness of the models.

Ms. Bui Thi Viet from Dong Loi village said: "In 2023, my family was classified as a poor household and was given a breeding cow by the government to develop our economy. Since then, I have always received guidance from the commune on cow care techniques. Thanks to raising cows, we have a decent income and my family has escaped poverty."

The practical and effective solutions implemented by Thanh Luong commune have yielded positive results, contributing to improving the lives of the people. As it prepares to embark on a new phase, with the serious and responsible work ethic of the Party committee and government, and the collective efforts of the people, Thanh Luong will continue to strive for sustainable development.
