Not afraid of difficulties, hardships, persistently and wholeheartedly staying in school, staying in class to "sow knowledge" with the desire to improve the qualityof education in the highlands, helping students have a brighter future. The person we want to mention is young teacher Nguyen An Hao (born in 1986) - teacher at Phan Dung Primary and Secondary School, Tuy Phong district.
Graduated from the University of Education with a major in mathematics, in 2007, Mr. Hao was assigned to teach at a suburban school (Phuoc The Secondary School) in his hometown of Tuy Phong district. After getting married, in 2015, Mr. Hao was assigned to work in the mountainous commune of Phan Dung. With the characteristic that 90% of the students are children of the Raglai ethnic group, the conditions are still difficult and lacking. When he first started working, Mr. Hao could not help but feel bewildered because he did not understand the characteristics of the students here. Many times, the students did not fully understand the Vietnamese language, so the teaching process also encountered many difficulties. According to Mr. Hao, in 2021, the school merged primary and secondary levels into Phan Dung Primary and Secondary School, currently the school has 4 campuses located in the 2 communes of Phong Phu and Phan Dung. Many students live far from the school so they are reluctant to go to class, some others follow their parents to the fields, so the situation of students dropping out of school still occurs. Looking at his students like that, Mr. Hao could not help but feel sorry: "The children are still young and not yet of working age. If they drop out of school early, they will not have a bright future." In addition to performing their teaching duties, Mr. Hao and other teachers in the school have to wake up early and travel dozens of kilometers to each family to encourage students to go to school. At the same time, they carry out social work to mobilize resources to support school bags, books, bicycles, lunches, etc. for the students. Thanks to that, the annual dropout rate has decreased significantly.
With the main expertise of teaching mathematics and computer science at secondary school level, Mr. Hao also teaches some other subjects assigned by the school (due to lack of teachers). In particular, with a passion for information technology (IT), Mr. Hao has researched and consulted with the school to guide training on applying IT in teaching for teachers. In the past 2 school years, Mr. Hao has advised the school to carry out the work of digitalizing the school and is one of the leading schools in Tuy Phong district in digitizing all types of records. Up to now, 100% of the school's teachers have digitized all types of records. Along with that, thanks to socialization work, the school has equipped all classrooms with televisions and computers for teachers to apply IT. In addition, the school has received support from benefactors for smart interactive boards, so Mr. Hao has searched for and trained teachers to apply it in teaching, contributing to improving the quality of education in mountainous areas. In addition to his expertise, Mr. Hao also actively participates in social activities such as annual blood donation and participating in local cultural and sports movements.
However, Mr. Hao is concerned that Phan Dung commune no longer has preferential policies for disadvantaged areas as before, so teachers teaching and working at Phan Dung School are the same as those in schools in the plains. Although the distance from their residence to the school, teachers have to travel 30 km of difficult mountain passes, especially during the rainy and lightning season, the risk of flooding is very dangerous. Mr. Hao hopes that the province will have a policy mechanism to support part of the travel expenses for teachers working in Phan Dung commune. It is difficult to list all the difficulties, but with responsibility and love for his students, Mr. Hao is still determined to stay in this difficult land to guide students to progress as well as contribute to the digitalization of schools, contributing to improving the quality of education in the highlands.
With more than 15 years of dedication to the career of educating people, Mr. Hao has achieved many outstanding achievements such as being an excellent teacher at the provincial and district levels for many consecutive years; being an emulation fighter for many years, being awarded a certificate of merit twice by the Provincial People's Committee, and a party member who has completed his tasks excellently. Currently, Mr. Hao is a core subject cadre at the district and provincial levels. In particular, on the occasion of Vietnamese Teachers' Day, November 20 this year, Mr. Hao was honored to be one of 58 delegates nationwide to be honored in the program "Sharing with teachers" in 2023 organized by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Union in coordination with the Ministry of Education and Training , the Ethnic Minorities Committee and Thien Long Group, scheduled to take place on November 17 in Hanoi. This honor program is for teachers who have contributed to ethnic minority and mountainous areas for the cause of educational development.
