Vietnamese gymnastics can aim for Olympic achievements
This afternoon, July 4, the Department of Sports and Physical Training and the Vietnam Gymnastics Federation welcomed the President of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) Morinari Wantanabe to visit and survey the location of the program to promote the development of street acrobatics "Parkour Asian Tour".
Speaking at the meeting, President of the International Gymnastics Federation Morinario Wantanabe highlighted the potential of gymnastics in Vietnam, especially gymnastics. He shared: "Vietnam is a country that develops gymnastics, and has athletes competing in the Olympic arena. I want to help Vietnamese gymnastics develop. Let's see what results we can achieve by 2024. I believe we will achieve good results. I want to take the example of the Philippines. 7 years ago when I came to the Philippines, the gymnastics industry in this country was zero and had not developed much. We supported and found European experts to help Philippine gymnastics develop clearly.
Mr. Morinari Wantanabe, President of the World Gymnastics Federation
Conditions in Vietnam are better than in the Philippines, so I believe anything is possible, as long as you have a big enough dream and determination, achieving success in the Olympic arena is completely possible. As President of the World Gymnastics Federation, I will do my best to support the Vietnam Gymnastics Federation. Your dream is also my dream."
However, Mr. Wantanabe affirmed that Vietnamese gymnastics needs to have a specific and clear plan to achieve the ambition of winning medals at the Olympic playground.
"Winning an Olympic gold medal is not difficult if we have a goal and a plan. Winning an achievement at the 2024 Olympics is a difficult goal, but the 2028 Olympics is possible. We should not set goals for too long. If we do not try, we will not have the desired results. Let's have a plan right now. In Japan, gymnasts do not have days off. They all set a goal to try every day. From now until 2028, we still have a lot of time, so let's make a plan right now. Importantly, you must be proud of yourself. Gymnastics emphasizes willpower and mental strength, and is also the sport with the highest level of difficulty. Be proud of being a gymnast, being able to do things that are more difficult than other sports," the President of the World Gymnastics Federation affirmed.
According to Director of the Department of Sports and Physical Training Dang Ha Viet, Mr. Wantanabe's visit is very meaningful in 2023, the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Vietnam, and is even more meaningful in the special relationship between the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) in general, the Japan Gymnastics Federation in particular and the Gymnastics Federation of Vietnam.
Mr. Dang Ha Viet highly appreciated the support of the World Gymnastics Federation for the Vietnam Gymnastics Federation in the recent past. The Department of Sports and Physical Training also hopes that the World Gymnastics Federation will introduce experts to train the men's gymnastics team and introduce a training location for the men's gymnastics team to train long-term in Japan.
Support the development of parkour in Vietnam
During the meeting, the Department of Sports and Physical Training and the Vietnam Gymnastics Federation proposed that the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) provide support in terms of facilities, equipment and finance for the organization of the "Parkour Asian tour" program held in Hanoi from August 26 to 28, and support in terms of training and competition equipment for gymnastics; aerobic gymnastics competition floors and artistic gymnastics competition mats.
Vietnamese gymnastics hopes to go far at the Olympics
World Gymnastics Federation President Wantanabe affirmed: "We can use sports as a springboard for development, there are areas that can be further exploited. There are many new sports in the World Gymnastics Federation. The young generation also wants to develop new sports, so that the young generation can accompany the next generation. Sports bring solidarity and freedom, this is an opportunity for young people to try their hand.
In Vietnam, we have potential subjects. That is the reason I came here, bringing a new sport called parkour to help Vietnam develop. We will sponsor Parkour training equipment for Vietnam, placing the equipment in a large shopping mall for young people to participate, starting with children who want to challenge themselves to develop. I hope that Vietnamese sports will achieve high results in gymnastics at the 2028 Olympics, or further, achieve high results in Parkour tournaments around the world."
Vietnam is committed to developing parkour with the support of the World Gymnastics Federation, and the Vietnam Gymnastics Federation is always an active member in implementing FIG's movement development activities.
