On the afternoon of June 2, central defender Facundo Garcés officially joined the team and became a new player of the Malaysian national team. The Argentine player has completed all naturalization procedures and is ready to play this June under the "Harimau Malaya" jersey. Facundo is considered a quality piece in front of the goal of the "Golden Tigers" in the upcoming confrontation with the Vietnamese national team. Especially when the match between the two teams is considered a direct competition for a ticket to the 2027 Asian Cup finals in Group F.

“Facundo has a strong personality, is a calm, experienced central defender and has leadership qualities. He is excited to wear the Malaysian national team shirt and wants to contribute to taking the team to new heights,” coach Peter Clamovski commented on his new student.

Facundo was born in 1999 in Argentina. He started his career at Colón and made his first-team debut in December 2020. Here, the 25-year-old played 116 matches and scored 3 goals. In 2021, he won the Copa de la Liga with Colón.

In January 2025, Facundo joined Deportivo Alavés on a free transfer after his contract with Colón ended. In the 2024/25 season, he played 10 matches in La Liga, including 7 starts, and received positive reviews from experts. He was one of the outstanding factors that helped Alavés' defense improve significantly.

Facundo is highly regarded for his ability to read situations, fight in the air and launch attacks from the back. He usually plays as a right-sided centre-back and can play well in a three or four-man defence. Facundo has never played for Argentina. However, with his composure and experience in La Liga, he is expected to become a reliable stopper in the Malaysian defence.

“I am very honored to be part of the Malaysian team. From the moment I arrived here, I felt the welcome, the warmth and the team spirit. I am ready to fight my best for the Malaysian team,” Facundo shared in his first training session with the Malaysian team.

Garcés’ naturalization is the latest step in the strategy of strengthening the squad with foreign-born players that Malaysian football has pursued for many years. Previously, this team had many prominent naturalized faces such as Liridon Krasniqi, Guilherme de Paula and Paulo Josué.
