This is the second mass stabbing reported in just three days in Sydney, after six people were killed in a serious knife attack at a shopping centre in the Bondi area on April 13.

Monday's attack occurred during a service at Christ The Good Shepherd Church in Wakeley, and police remained at the scene trying to control crowds that had gathered to watch the event.

Police said the injuries were not life-threatening and were being treated by medical staff.

Local media reported that a priest and several worshippers were stabbed during a church service. Video of the incident circulating online showed a man rushing forward and stabbing a speaker.

The New South Wales Ambulance Service said at least four people were injured, including a man in his 50s who was taken to hospital in a serious condition.
