Vietnam market is "particularly important" to Malaysia's tourism industry

Tourism Malaysia in Vietnam and the Malaysian Embassy in Vietnam recently held a workshop on Updating Malaysian Tourism Products in Hanoi. In addition, within the framework of the VITM Hanoi 2024 Tourism Fair, Tourism Malaysia and its partners organized booths to introduce many potential tourist destinations, including eco-tourism, which is a strength of the Malaysian tourism industry.

According to Malaysian Ambassador to Vietnam Dato' Tan Yang Thai, with the expectation of attracting 27.3 million international visitors to Malaysia in 2024, Vietnam is a particularly important market for Malaysia to achieve this goal.

“In 2023, tourism cooperation between Vietnam and Malaysia also had important developments. Malaysia welcomed 344,361 Vietnamese tourists, while 470,105 Malaysian tourists traveled to Vietnam. In 2024, Malaysia hopes to attract more tourists from Vietnam with a target of 470,000 arrivals. This year, we will focus on promoting eco-tourism destinations such as Sabah and Sarawak. In addition, we will also introduce tourism products combined witheducation in Malaysia for Vietnamese students,” said Ambassador Dato' Tan Yang Thai.

Currently, the Malaysian tourism industry is making efforts to diversify services and experiences towards Vietnamese tourists in 2024, such as educational tourism, entertainment - resort tourism, exploration journeys to the "Land of Hornbills" Sarawak or MICE tourism policies specifically for the Vietnamese market.

According to Ms. Nor Hayati Zainuddin, Director of the Malaysia Tourism Promotion Agency in Vietnam, towards Visit Malaysia Year 2026, the Malaysian tourism industry is committed to developing tourism through close cooperation with strategic partners to share experiences, develop flight routes and tourism products, support promotion and investment in improving service quality.

AirAsia and Batik Air have also joined the flight network between Vietnam and Malaysia, creating more convenience for travelers. Mr. Nguyen Duc Khanh - Batik Air's sales representative in Vietnam said: "Batik Air is operating daily direct flights between Kuala Lumpur and two major tourist centers in Vietnam, Hanoi and Da Nang, helping travelers from both countries have more flexible flight options. Passengers also have more comfort when enjoying a modern digital platform throughout the flight, including entertainment services, in-flight services, and mobile device connectivity."

From April 11 to 14, at the Malaysian tourism booth at VITM Hanoi 2024, the colorful image of Malaysia will be recreated through traditional Sarawak dance performances, performances of the Sape national musical instrument, quiz activities to learn about Malaysia and the art of Teh Tarik tea-pulling dance performed by cultural artisans from Malaysia. “VITM 2024 is a great opportunity to promote Malaysia with diverse cultural and ecological tourism products,” emphasized Ms. Nor Hayati Zainuddin.
