Add 2 new highways
The Vietnam Road Administration has just submitted to the Ministry of Transport for approval the adjustment of the Road Network Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, including the addition of two new expressways: Ca Mau - Dat Mui and Quang Ngai - Kon Tum .
Specifically, the Ca Mau - Dat Mui expressway is about 90km long, has 4 lanes, and is expected to be invested after 2030.
According to the Vietnam Road Administration, the inclusion of this expressway in the planning is to meet the forecast of increasing transportation demand; the locality has proactively researched and supplemented the provincial planning.
The Department recommends that the route, after being added, should not be included in the Eastern North-South expressway system so as not to affect the goal of completing the Eastern North-South expressway by 2025.
Quang Ngai - Kon Tum Expressway is about 136km long, 4 lanes, investment progress before 2030.
According to the Vietnam Road Administration, the expressway is included in the planning to maximize the advantages of the country, region and locality.
“Resolution No. 23 of the Politburo has determined that for the Northern Central Highlands sub-region (Gia Lai and Kon Tum provinces), eco-tourism areas and tourist areas associated with national parks and nature reserves will be formed.
To implement this orientation, it is necessary to add an expressway connecting from the North-South expressway in the East to tourist areas in the Kon Tum area.
The People's Committee of Quang Ngai province has issued a document proposing to add the Quang Ngai - Kon Tum expressway to develop the potential of tourism land funds in the border area of the two provinces, connecting Quang Ngai province with the Central Highlands provinces, as well as connecting with Laos at Bo Y border gate. Kon Tum and Quang Ngai localities have also proactively researched and added this route to the provincial planning," informed the Vietnam Road Administration.
Total planned length of expressways increased
From the adjustment and addition of some of the above expressways, the total length of the expressway system has changed. The expressway network according to the planning approved by the Prime Minister has increased from 41 routes with a total length of about 9,014km to 43 routes.
The Northern region has 14 routes, the length of about 2,305km is increased to about 2,313km. The Central and Central Highlands regions have 10 routes, the length of about 1,431km is increased to 11 routes with a length of about 1,496km. The Southern region has 10 routes, the length of about 1,290km is increased to 11 routes with a length of about 1,380km.
For the North-South expressway in the East from Huu Nghi border gate (Lang Son) to Ca Mau city (Ca Mau province), the length is about 2,063km, the scale from 4 to 10 lanes remains the same in length but the scale is increased from 6 to 12 lanes.
Thus, after adjusting and supplementing the expressways, the total planned length of expressways by 2050 is about 9,234km (an increase of about 220km compared to the previous plan). Of which, the routes with investment roadmap before 2030 are about 6,754km (an increase of about 633km), the routes with investment roadmap after 2030 are about 2,480km.
