The cheapest time to buy summer vacation air tickets

Buying in advance, waiting for promotions or extra flights, choosing tickets during off-peak hours are the ways to get the cheapest summer airfare.

According to advice from an airline ticket office in Hanoi, from the beginning of June to August 15 is the peak summer vacation season for domestic tourism . Therefore, services such as hotels, airline tickets, and tours all increase in price. Of which, July is usually the peak season, and airline tickets also increase the most, from at least 20% compared to normal days.

"July is the peak season for summer tourism. If you want to get a reasonable price, buy tickets 2-3 months in advance," said Mr. Viet Hung, a company representative.

However, if you are willing to watch for tickets, promotions and arrange your schedule appropriately, you can still buy a number of cheap tickets, depending on the time and destination. If you choose to fly early to mid-week, early morning or late evening, the ticket price will often be a few hundred thousand dong lower than other times. For example, buying a ticket from Hanoi to Da Nang on Vietnam Airlines at 6am costs 1.2 million dong one way, but buying a ticket at 10:30am or 12pm can cost 1.5 to 2 million dong.

Depending on your personal needs, you can choose an airline that offers cheap tickets. In theory, Vietjet Air tickets are generally cheaper than Vietnam Airlines and Bamboo Airways. If you have few needs, no checked baggage, no on-board meals, no premium services (Business Class), Vietjet Air is the best choice in terms of price.

In addition, when hunting for cheap tickets, keep an eye on the airline's promotional programs, and hunt for tickets during off-peak hours (like at night). Vietnam Airlines and Bamboo Airways both have fixed discount days. Follow the fanpage or receive newsletters to get the latest updates.

Another way to get cheap tickets is to wait for the airline to increase flights. Usually, airlines will plan to increase flights when assessing the increase in passenger numbers during peak periods, summer vacation is one of those occasions. However, this method is quite risky, because airlines do not always increase flights at the exact time you need. This method is also only suitable when you decide to go on vacation at the last minute, not to mention that hotel rooms booked too close to each other will also increase in price.
