Vietnam News Agency and AKP News Agency sign new phase cooperation agreement

According to a VNA correspondent in Phnom Penh, within the framework ofPresident To Lam's state visit to Cambodia from July 12-13, the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) and the Cambodian News Agency (AKP) re-signed a professional cooperation agreement.

On July 12, in Phnom Penh, the Kingdom of Cambodia, a delegation of VNA, led by General Director Vu Viet Trang, held talks with AKP General Director Sokmom Nimul and signed a new phase of professional cooperation agreement between VNA and AKP.

Speaking at the talks, VNA General Director Vu Viet Trang affirmed that this visit to Cambodia demonstrates the desire to bring the professional cooperation in the field of information and communication between VNA and AKP to become more substantial, practical and effective, meeting the development needs of the press in the digital age, commensurate with the cooperation activities between the two countries that are taking place vigorously at all levels, contributing to consolidating the good relationship between Vietnam and Cambodia.

According to General Director Vu Viet Trang, although it was not possible to meet directly in the past due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, cooperation activities between the two companies were still implemented effectively, in accordance with the situation and capabilities of each company.

The General Director also thanked the AKP leadership for always providing effective support to the VNA's resident office and reporters in Cambodia.

The General Director of VNA informed the AKP leaders about the development of VNA in the direction of increasing the application of modern press technology in many stages of the working process, improving the capacity of the team of journalists in the digital age.

General Director Vu Viet Trang emphasized that in the current strong digital transformation trend, VNA has deployed many solutions to diversify information products, exploit rich data sources, focus on developing new press products combining text, photos, audio, graphics and videos and information distribution channels to reach the public on many platforms.

In addition to broadcasting information from reporters in 63 provinces and cities nationwide and 30 cities in 28 countries around the world, VNA also exploits information from about 40 partner international news agencies and press agencies, including AKP, to provide timely and accurate information on the situation in Vietnam and regional and world issues and events to the domestic and foreign press system as well as directly to the public.

At the meeting, AKP Director General Sokmom Nimul highly appreciated the effective cooperation between VNA and AKP. Director General Sokmom Nimul emphasized that VNA is a friend and reliable partner who always provides official information sources for AKP, and that AKP's development today cannot be separated from the support and assistance from VNA. The relationship between the two agencies as well as between the two countries is based on friendship, solidarity and mutual support.

General Director Sokmom Nimul expressed his belief that this meeting and signing event will help strengthen the relationship between the two agencies, especially enhancing the leading role of the two key national press agencies, contributing to consolidating and strengthening the Vietnam-Cambodia relationship.

According to General Director Sokmom Nimul, AKP is currently focusing on reforming in the spirit of positivity, proactiveness, and synchronization of the Ministry of Information and the Royal Government of Cambodia to improve work efficiency and professional activities, focusing on technical issues and human resources.

In that spirit, AKP hopes to continue receiving support from VNA in terms of materials, technology, training, especially in the field of television.

After reviewing the outstanding milestones in the close and comprehensive cooperation between VNA and AKP since 1979, based on VNA's proposal, the leaders of the two agencies agreed to consider the possibility of carrying out meaningful activities, recognizing the contributions of the special cooperation between VNA and AKP in the development journey of each agency towards the 80th anniversary of VNA's founding (September 15, 1945 - September 15, 2025) and the 50th anniversary of AKP's founding (December 3, 1978 - December 3, 2028).

The leaders of the two agencies agreed to propose that the competent authorities of the two countries consider the possibility of VNA and AKP coordinating to implement a project to enhance bilateral cooperation capacity within the framework of Vietnam-Cambodia intergovernmental cooperation in the coming time.

The General Director of VNA and AKP affirmed the need for closer and more frequent cooperation in verifying doubtful information, providing accurate and timely information to the domestic public and the international community to avoid fake and untrue information affecting the relationship between the two countries.

After discussing and agreeing on cooperation contents, VNA General Director Vu Viet Trang and AKP General Director Sokmom Nimul signed a new phase of professional cooperation agreement between VNA and AKP.

The agreement includes information exchange, technical support, assistance to resident reporters and special correspondents, delegation exchanges, support for updating journalism skills, Vietnamese and Khmer language practice, as well as coordination of views at press forums in which both sides participate.

On this occasion, the VNA delegation also presented equipment for filming and television news production to AKP, in line with the current needs and development focus of the Cambodian national news agency.

During the visit, General Director Vu Viet Trang and the VNA delegation also visited and worked at the Vietnamese Embassy in the Kingdom of Cambodia.

General Director Vu Viet Trang expressed his sincere thanks to Ambassador Nguyen Huy Tang and the Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia for always caring, directing and accompanying VNA and especially the reporters of the VNA Resident Office in Phnom Penh in carrying out political tasks.

Ambassador Nguyen Huy Tang highly appreciated the role of VNA and the activities of the VNA Resident Office in Phnom Penh, affirming that the information published by VNA about bilateral relations is always accurate and consistent with the country's foreign policy.

During his visit to Cambodia from July 12-13, Director General Vu Viet Trang and the VNA delegation also had a working lunch with Cambodian Minister of Information Neth Pheaktra, discussing some development orientations and press management of the two countries in the context of strong digital media development; and visited and worked with reporters of the VNA Resident Office in Phnom Penh./.
