Mr. Chu Van An, Deputy Director in charge of Khanh Hoa Department of Transport, said that the amount of dirt and rocks blocking National Highway 27C through Son Thai Commune, Khanh Vinh District has been cleared. At around 2:00 a.m. today (December 19), Khanh Le Pass connecting Nha Trang - Da Lat was opened to one lane.
"Many units and machines were reinforced to work in 3 shifts and 4 crews for many days to break rocks, clear roads, fix problems, and soon open National Highway 27C," said Mr. An.
According to Mr. An, after dealing with the landslides, the authorities installed warning systems and dispatched traffic control forces to ensure safety. Currently, vehicles pass through this area at a slow speed, one at a time.
Earlier, on the morning of December 15, prolonged heavy rain caused landslides at 6 locations on Highway 27C, disrupting traffic. Many large rocks weighing hundreds of tons were lying across Khanh Le Pass, paralyzing traffic for many days.
The following evening, authorities used 17kg of explosives to break up the rock weighing more than 100 tons. However, after clearing the mud, construction workers discovered four more rocks weighing hundreds of tons, blocking Highway 27C at this location.
In addition, the rescue road at Km43+450 on this route was damaged by landslides. The 2-layer corrugated iron guardrail and the entire drainage ditch along the section from Km43+200 to Km43+500 were damaged. Cracks appeared in some locations on the concrete road surface.
