The Russian Defense Ministry said it destroyed a total of 45 drones on Russian territory, including 11 in the Moscow region, 23 in the Bryansk border region, six in the Belgorod region, three in the Kaluga region and two in the Kursk region.
Russian media showed footage of the drone being shot down by air defences over Moscow in the early hours of Wednesday morning, turning into a ball of fire. Moscow’s Vnukovo, Domodedovo and Zhukovsky airports were closed for four hours but were back to normal by 03:30 GMT, the Russian aviation watchdog said.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said several drones were destroyed over the city of Podolsk. The city in the Moscow region is about 38 kilometers (24 miles) south of the Kremlin.
"This was one of the largest drone attacks ever on Moscow. Moscow's multi-layered defense system successfully repelled all attacks from enemy UAVs," Sobyanin said on the Telegram messaging app on the morning of August 21.
According to preliminary information, no casualties or damage were reported following the attack. There were also no casualties or damage reported following the attack on Bryansk in southwestern Russia, according to regional governor Alexander Bogomaz.
The attack came after artillery and drone strikes across fields, forests and villages in eastern Ukraine escalated on August 6, when Ukraine sent thousands of troops into Russia’s western Kursk region.
For months, Ukraine has also carried out a series of daily drone attacks, causing extensive damage to oil refineries and airports in Russia, the world’s second-largest oil exporter. However, major drone attacks on the capital Moscow are rarer.
