During the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Snake 2025, the Ho Chi Minh City Police, in coordination with the City Market Management Department and other relevant functional units, detected, seized, and processed a large quantity of smuggled, counterfeit, and fake goods in the area.
Accordingly, the Standing Agency of the Steering Committee 389 of Ho Chi Minh City - the Ho Chi Minh City Market Management Department - has directed and closely supervised the destruction of smuggled foreign-made cigarettes in the city, carried out by the Police, the City Civil Enforcement Department, and the Civil Enforcement Sub-departments of the districts/wards.

Before, during, and after the Lunar New Year, the Standing Agency of the City's 389 Steering Committee supervised the destruction of 169,705 packs of smuggled foreign-made cigarettes by functional forces in the city.
These goods, manufactured abroad and smuggled in, include the following brands: 555, Jet, Hero, Esse Change, Esse Menthol, Esse Lights, Esse Change, Marlboro, Zouk, Raison Ice Cafe, Caraven Demi, Caraven Classic, Saigon Silver...
During the peak period of the crackdown on various types of crime and ensuring security and order during the 2025 Lunar New Year, the Ho Chi Minh City Police Investigation Agency also uncovered a major case, dismantling a large-scale ring involved in the "Production and trading of counterfeit medicines" led by Ngo Kim Dieu and Nguyen Thi Ngoc Huong, and prosecuting 22 individuals.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Police, the suspects used the legal entities of companies in Binh Tan District and District 8 as a front to conceal their production and sale of counterfeit traditional medicine combined with modern pharmaceuticals (in capsule form).
The suspects organized the entire process, from capsule production and blister packaging to the storage of raw materials and finished products, at various locations in Ho Chi Minh City to avoid detection and prosecution by authorities.
During the Lunar New Year holiday, the Ho Chi Minh City Inter-agency Inspection Team also conducted inspections of Co.op Mart Tuy Ly Vuong supermarket; Co.op Mart Pham The Hien supermarket; Nhi Thien Duong Market; Xom Cui Market; Rach Ong Market; Pham The Hien Market, Phu Loi 1 Market and Phu Tho Tourism Service Joint Stock Company and many other businesses, convenience stores, traditional markets...
On January 21st, at the Viet-Australian Environmental Joint Stock Company's factory in Le Minh Xuan Industrial Park (Binh Chanh district), the Ho Chi Minh City Market Management Department, in coordination with the City's Food Safety Department and the Economic and Official Crime Investigation Team of District 12 Police, destroyed 18,168 bottles of 250ml Heineken beer, originating from France, with a total value of hundreds of millions of VND.
