(HNMO) - On June 20th, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport held a press conference to provide information on its activities from the beginning of the year to the present and its operational direction for the remaining months of the year.

The volume of public passenger transport in the first five months of the year is estimated at over 152 million trips.

According to Tran Quang Lam, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport, the volume of public bus passenger transport from the beginning of 2023 to date has reached over 33 million trips, an increase of 38.8% compared to the same period in 2022 and achieving 37.4% of the 2023 plan.

Passenger traffic by waterway in the first five months of the year is estimated at 13.07 million, an increase of 7.46% compared to the same period in 2022; the number of passengers traveling to and from Ho Chi Minh City by rail is estimated at over 514,000, an increase of 86% compared to the same period in 2022; the number of passengers arriving at and departing from Tan Son Nhat Airport is estimated at over 16.7 million, an increase of 74% compared to the same period in 2022.

Regarding freight transport, the volume of goods handled through seaports in the first five months of the year is estimated at over 64 million tons, a decrease of 5.37% compared to the same period in 2022; the volume of goods handled through inland waterways is estimated at over 23 million tons, a decrease of 17.67% compared to the same period in 2022.

Notably, after more than a year of collecting fees for the use of infrastructure, public service facilities, and utilities in the port and harbor areas of Ho Chi Minh City, by the end of May, over 2,665 billion VND had been collected. This has created a source of revenue to fully implement investment projects connecting to the city's seaports according to the planned schedule.

Ho Chi Minh City uses revenue from port fees to develop transportation infrastructure connecting its ports.

In the coming period, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport will continue to focus on coordinating with relevant departments and investors to accelerate the completion and commissioning of the following projects by April 30, 2025: the construction of Ring Road 3, the section through Ho Chi Minh City; the My Thuy intersection project; projects to reduce traffic congestion in the Tan Son Nhat airport area; the An Phu intersection project; and the expansion of National Highway 50.

In addition, expedite the investment preparation procedures for key strategic projects to meet the commencement deadline of April 30, 2025, including: the Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai expressway project; Can Gio bridge; Thu Thiem 4 bridge; Ring Road 4, section through Ho Chi Minh City; Ring Road 2, section 1 (section from Phu Huu bridge to Hanoi Highway); Nguyen Khoai bridge and road; urban railway line 2, phase 1 (Ben Thanh - Tham Luong); Can Gio International Transshipment Port...
