Hanoi , in the 10th grade admission season of the 2025-2026 school year, Nguyen Quang Anh, a former student of class 9A4, Cau Giay Secondary School, received many "admirations" when he became one of the 8 non-specialized valedictorians in the city, achieving a total of 28.75/30 points (9 points for Literature; 9.75 points for Math and 10 points for English).
Quang Anh also passed the entrance exams to 6 prestigious specialized schools: Passed both the Math and Chemistry majors of the High School of Natural Sciences (University of Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, Hanoi); Math and Chemistry majors of Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted; Literature major of the High School of Social Sciences and Humanities (University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Vietnam National University, Hanoi); Chemistry major of the High School of Pedagogy (Hanoi National University of Education); and passed both the Math and Chemistry majors of the High School of Natural Sciences (University of Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, Hanoi); Math and Chemistry majors of Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted.

Self-study is the key
Sharing his study secrets, Quang Anh said that from the beginning of secondary school, he set a clear goal for himself: studying for long-term development, not just for grades. The male student identified self-study as a key factor and spent a lot of time on Math and Chemistry, the fields he wanted to pursue in the future. In addition to completing the homework assigned by teachers, he proactively searched for more documents online, consulted with friends to expand his knowledge and practice advanced exercises.
Regarding the specialized Literature subject, Quang Anh believes that to study well, one must have a solid foundation, read a lot and seriously practice writing skills. Fortunately, his mother is a Literature teacher at Nghia Tan Secondary School, so he often receives sharp comments to help him perfect his writing. Therefore, the male student is highly determined with this subject, as a gift of gratitude to his mother and homeroom teacher.
One “secret” that helps Quang Anh balance many learning goals is concentration. He always makes the most of his time in class to grasp the lessons, understand and remember what he learns. At home, he only spends time reviewing advanced exercises and does not study too late, usually finishing before 11:30 p.m. to ensure his health.
Quang Anh has built for himself a disciplined but stress-free learning style. He divides large pieces of knowledge into smaller parts for easy review, combining review with mind maps. Outside of school hours, he does not forget to nurture his spiritual life: playing the guitar, swimming with his father, reading books with his mother and sister.
Family is Quang Anh's strong spiritual support. He shared: at home there is no comparison or pressure to achieve, but only companionship, encouragement and trust. "I don't feel like I have to try harder because others are better, I just want to surpass myself every day," the male student said.
Thanks to maintaining a positive and confident mindset, Quang Anh entered the 10th grade entrance exam with a relaxed mindset.
Don't limit yourself to a few strong subjects
Ms. Pham Hong Minh, Quang Anh's mother, a high school literature teacher in Hanoi, shared that her son always maintains a spirit of self-discipline in studying and proactively arranges his time reasonably.
“My husband and I do not put pressure on our children's scores, but always encourage them to study to understand, discover new knowledge every day and improve themselves from yesterday,” said Ms. Minh.

Not only studying regularly, Quang Anh also showed his courage and the spirit to break through early. Since he was in 8th grade, he actively registered for the 9th grade excellent student contest and excellently won second prize at the district level. Entering 9th grade, the male student continued to challenge himself at a higher level when choosing to take the Math exam in the city excellent student contest and won first prize.
In this year’s 10th grade entrance exam, Quang Anh’s class 9A4 also made a strong impression when 100% of students were admitted to public high schools in Hanoi. Of these, 34 students were admitted to specialized classes with an average admission score of 26.7. Not only did Quang Anh achieve the title of valedictorian with a total score of 28.75, the class also had three other students who won the runner-up position with the same score of 28.5 (excluding priority points) – an impressive result, reflecting the even academic quality of the entire class.
Sharing about this outstanding achievement, Mr. Thieu Quang Tung, homeroom teacher of class 9A4, said that the result was not accidental but the sweet fruit of the students' persistent efforts, serious study and unceasing passion for learning.
As for Nguyen Quang Anh, Mr. Tung highly appreciated his outstanding ability in natural subjects such as Math and Chemistry, but what impressed him the most was his steady and solid study and always being in the leading group in all subjects - from natural sciences to social sciences and foreign languages.
According to Mr. Tung, the average scores of the main subjects of class 9A4 this year are also superior to previous courses: Math reached an average of 9.1 points, Literature 8.1 and English up to 9.5. These numbers show that not only a few outstanding individuals, but the entire class maintains a spirit of serious study, effort and solidarity to progress together.
Nguyen Quang Anh’s success story was not written by pressure or racing for achievements, but originated from a love of learning, the right orientation and inspiration that was aroused at the right time. From a student passionate about Math and Chemistry, Quang Anh gradually asserted himself by winning first prize in the city-level Math competition, then surpassed thousands of candidates to be admitted to six specialized classes – including Literature.
You are a living proof of modern learning thinking: not limiting yourself to a few strong subjects, but proactively exploring other fields to improve yourself more comprehensively.
