Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Manh Cuong visits Thailand

Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Manh Cuong emphasized that Thailand is an important partner of Vietnam in the region and is Vietnam's leading trade and investment partner in ASEAN.

From April 21-22, Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Manh Cuong visited and worked in Thailand to coordinate with the Thai side to review and discuss directions to promote practical and effective cooperation in various fields, while enhancing exchanges and cooperation between political parties of the two countries.

During the visit, Deputy Minister Nguyen Manh Cuong had a working session with Thai Deputy Foreign Minister Russ Jalichandra and met with leaders of major Thai political parties including the Pheu Thai Party and the Democrat Party.

At the meeting with the Thai Deputy Foreign Minister, the two sides expressed their delight at the positive developments in the Vietnam-Thailand Enhanced Strategic Partnership, built on the foundation of respect and understanding, continuing to further deepen bilateral relations through promoting delegation exchanges and promoting cooperation on all channels.

Affirming that Thailand always attaches importance to and wishes to further strengthen the Enhanced Strategic Partnership with Vietnam, Deputy Minister Russ Jalichandra highly appreciated the close cooperation between the two Foreign Ministries in promoting the implementation of high-level agreements.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Manh Cuong emphasized that Thailand is an important partner of Vietnam in the region, and is Vietnam's leading trade and investment partner in ASEAN; he suggested that the two sides continue to expand market access, reduce trade barriers and strive to soon reach the target of 25 billion USD in bilateral trade in a more sustainable and balanced manner.

Thanking Vietnam for creating favorable conditions for Thai enterprises to do business in Vietnam, Deputy Minister Russ Jalichandra hoped that the Vietnamese Government would continue to create conditions to remove obstacles for a number of investment projects of Thai enterprises in Vietnam; emphasizing the importance of the Three Connectivity strategy, the two sides agreed to soon establish a Working Group to discuss the content and specific plans.

The two sides assessed defense and security as one of the important pillars of cooperation; agreed to continue promoting cooperation mechanisms such as the Defense Policy Dialogue, the High-level Dialogue on Crime Prevention and Control and Security Issues; emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation in preventing and combating transnational crimes; and reaffirmed the commitment not to allow any individual or organization to use the territory of one country to fight against the other.

Assessing that both countries have potential and strengths in the tourism sector, the two sides agreed to closely coordinate between management agencies and tourism businesses to link products, connect destinations and share experiences in sustainable tourism development; consider the possibility of effectively implementing tourism connectivity initiatives within the ASEAN region to attract tourists from outside the region, including Thailand's Six Countries - One Destination initiative.

At meetings with Thai political party leaders, political party leaders welcomed the visit of the Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister and highly appreciated the important leadership role of the Communist Party of Vietnam in the cause of national construction and development.

The two sides expressed satisfaction with the positive progress in Vietnam-Thailand relations in recent times, and affirmed that, in addition to cooperation through state, government and national assembly channels, cooperation between political parties of the two countries is an important foreign relations channel, contributing to enhancing understanding, building trust and deepening the friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.
