On July 30, Viet Duc Friendship Hospital informed that the hospital's doctors had successfully treated and saved the life of a male patient (35 years old, Hung Yen ) who had a serious traffic accident, was in critical condition, had multiple internal injuries, and was directly threatening his life.
The accident occurred when the patient lost control of his motorbike and fell into a pile of steel, resulting in a series of serious injuries: ruptured liver, ruptured diaphragm, ruptured colon, lung impact, complex chest and abdominal wounds exposing all internal organs, lungs, and multiple injuries to the face, chest, and abdomen.
The patient was urgently transferred from Hung Yen General Hospital to Viet Duc Friendship Hospital in a state of severe shock, severe blood loss, and life-threatening.
Dr. Cao Manh Thau - Department of Oncology and Radiation Therapy said that as soon as the hospital received the patient, it activated the internal red alert, mobilizing specialized teams: Emergency, Hepatobiliary Surgery, Emergency Digestive Surgery, Orthopedic Trauma, Plastic and Cosmetic Maxillofacial Surgery, Anesthesia and Surgical Resuscitation to coordinate emergency treatment.
During the surgery, the patient was continuously transfused with 4 liters of blood to compensate for the severe blood loss. The doctors performed the following procedures: Placing a pleural drain, suturing the ruptured liver to stop bleeding, cutting a section of the colon and placing both ends to create a temporary colostomy; fusing the broken arm and ankle bones; treating complex wounds that lost the skin and fascia covering the organs in the chest and abdomen; and treating complex wounds in the maxillofacial area.

Thanks to close coordination and timely response between specialties, after emergency and intensive resuscitation, the patient's condition has gradually stabilized. Currently, the patient is conscious, stable and has been transferred to other specialties for intensive treatment.
Doctor Cao Manh Thau - who directly participated in the emergency treatment for the patient, recommends that in case of serious traffic accidents such as shock, severe bleeding, exposed internal organs, head, chest, and abdominal injuries, the patient needs to be given first aid and quickly taken to the nearest medical facility or directly transferred to Viet Duc Friendship Hospital. Because early emergency treatment, timely and proper first aid, multidisciplinary coordination, and maintaining communication channels for consultation between hospitals are decisive factors in the survival and minimizing sequelae for the patient./.
