Prime Minister Anwar said he wanted to popularize President Ho Chi Minh 's poetry collection "Prison Diary" in Malaysia, when meeting with President Vo Van Thuong.

President Vo Van Thuong this afternoon received Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on the occasion of his two-day official visit to Vietnam on July 20-21. Prime Minister Anwar said he greatly admired the life and career of President Ho Chi Minh and wanted to popularize the collection of poems Prison Diary in Malaysia.

Mr. Anwar emphasized that Vietnam plays an important role in ASEAN and affirmed that Malaysia always values ​​and wishes to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries.

President Vo Van Thuong suggested that the two sides continue to coordinate and support each other at regional and international forums, maintain ASEAN's common viewpoint on the East Sea, ensure full and serious implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), promote negotiations and build a Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC) in accordance with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

On the morning of July 21, Prime Minister Anwar met with National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue. He shared that he has had good feelings for Vietnam since his student years and his visits to Vietnam in previous positions.

The two leaders agreed to continue to facilitate investment, business, and trade, support limiting trade defense measures, and enhance cooperation to maintain and strengthen supply chains.

Prime Minister Anwar and National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue emphasized the importance of increasing bilateral trade in a more balanced manner, coordinating research, and establishing mechanisms to promote cooperation in fishing, processing, and consuming seafood. Mr. Anwar agreed to consider increasing imports of some Vietnamese products.

The two leaders also discussed the importance of maritime and oceanic cooperation, and further promoting cooperation in education, aviation, science and technology, tourism and people-to-people exchange. National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue hoped that the Malaysian government would continue to pay attention to and create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community in Malaysia.

This is Prime Minister Anwar's first official visit to Vietnam since he took office in December 2022 and takes place on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries (1973-2023). On the morning of July 21, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Mr. Anwar visited the book street in Hanoi. The work Prison Diary is one of the books that Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh gave to his Malaysian counterpart.

Vietnam and Malaysia became strategic partners in 2015. Malaysia is Vietnam's second largest trading partner in ASEAN and ninth in the world. Bilateral trade turnover between the two countries is expected to reach over 14.68 billion USD in 2022, up 17.4% compared to 2021.

Malaysia is among the 10 countries and territories investing the most in Vietnam, with 718 valid projects and a total registered capital of 13 billion USD. Vietnam has 21 investment projects in Malaysia with a total registered capital of 853 million USD. About 30,000 Vietnamese people are living, working and studying in Malaysia.
