Dutch Prime Minister arrives in Hanoi, starting official visit to Vietnam

Welcoming the Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte at Noi Bai airport were Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ha Kim Ngoc, Vietnamese Ambassador to the Netherlands Ngo Huong Nam and officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. On the Dutch side, welcoming the delegation were Dutch Ambassador to Vietnam Kees van Baar and officials of the Dutch Embassy in Hanoi.

Accompanying Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte on his visit to Vietnam were: Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Michiel Sweers; Foreign Policy Advisor of the Prime Minister's Office Cecile Klever; Ambassador of the Netherlands to Vietnam Kees van Baar; Deputy Ambassador of the Netherlands to Vietnam Christoph Prommersberger; Consul General of the Netherlands in Ho Chi Minh City Daniel Stork; Director of the Asia-Pacific Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Annemarie van der Heijden; Director of the Protocol Department, Ministry of the Interior Heika Brons; Spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office Aafke Plug; Senior Specialist of the Asia-Pacific Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Annelou Aartsen; Senior Specialist of the International Business Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Yasin Ince.

Prime Minister Mark Rutte has made two official visits to Vietnam (June 2014 and April 2019) and has welcomed high-ranking Vietnamese leaders to the Netherlands many times. He is a person who has sympathy for Vietnam.

Prime Minister Mark Rutte's visit to Vietnam is of great significance to the relationship between the two countries in the context of Vietnam and the Netherlands celebrating the 50th anniversary of the official establishment of diplomatic relations.

The Netherlands is currently the European Union's largest investor in Vietnam, with a total investment capital of about 13.7 billion USD and is the largest importer of Vietnamese goods in Europe with a total bilateral trade turnover of more than 11 billion USD.

Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat and Vietnamese Ambassador to the Netherlands Ngo Huong Nam welcomed Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte at Noi Bai airport.

"This is my third visit to Vietnam. The previous trips were memorable because I was always impressed by Vietnam's economic development and this is what brings me back here once again. I believe that we can expand cooperation in the digital and high-tech fields. These are areas of global interest and promise to bring many opportunities for cooperation between the Netherlands and Vietnam," Prime Minister Mark Rutte shared.

At a press conference on October 26, Dutch Ambassador to Vietnam Kees van Baar said that on November 2, Prime Minister Mark Rutte will meet with senior Vietnamese leaders: meet with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, hold talks with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh. During the talks, the two sides will focus on issues such as Vietnam-Netherlands cooperation in the fields of high technology, irrigation and agriculture.

On the occasion of Prime Minister Mark Rutte’s visit to Vietnam, the High-Tech Business Forum will be held in both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Prime Minister Mark Rutte will visit and meet students of Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, a symbol of educational cooperation between the two countries in particular and the people-to-people diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the Netherlands in general.
