Prime Minister: Banking industry ensures proper and timely credit growth

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested the banking industry to focus on promoting digital transformation, applying science and technology, strengthening credit control, and ensuring proper and appropriate credit growth.

The banking industry needs to continue to create, accompany, share, be flexible, work for the people, and be effective, contributing to stable, fast, and sustainable development so that people can enjoy the fruits of the country's development.

This is one of the important directions of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh at the 9th National Emulation Congress of the banking sector (2025-2030) combined with the Conference summarizing 5 years of implementing the National Strategy on gender equality, for the advancement of women and the Movement "Good at banking, good at housework" for the period 2020-2025. The event took place on the afternoon of November 24 in Hanoi .

Speaking at the Congress, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh praised the efforts and contributions of the banking sector in stabilizing the macro- economy , controlling inflation, ensuring system safety and supporting businesses and people.

Looking back at banking activities in recent times, the Prime Minister highly appreciated the improvement of institutions towards more openness, proactive and flexible monetary policy management; contributing to maintaining macroeconomic stability.

The industry is also recognized as a pioneer in digital transformation, actively implementing the project to streamline and perfect the apparatus towards streamlining, effectiveness and efficiency; emulation movements are organized methodically, achieving many practical results.

Notably, the Prime Minister commended commercial banks for always accompanying the country in difficult times, demonstrating a sense of responsibility, sharing and supporting the economy. The Prime Minister congratulated and recognized outstanding collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements in the emulation movement of the whole industry.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the emulation movement in the banking sector must be closely linked to the political tasks of each unit, contributing to the effective implementation of the sector's operational goals. The entire system needs to continue to make efforts to reduce costs, create conditions to reduce interest rates, thereby supporting production and business; at the same time, maintain macroeconomic stability, control inflation and ensure major balances of the economy.

The Prime Minister requested the industry to focus on promoting digital transformation, applying science and technology, stimulating innovation; improving quality and standardizing operations and services towards international practices. Along with that, the banking industry must strengthen credit control, ensuring proper and accurate credit growth.

The Prime Minister also pointed out that Vietnam is a developing economy with a large capital demand but cannot rely solely on the capital channel from banks. Therefore, it is necessary to promote the development of the capital market, especially the bond and stock markets, in parallel with saving costs and promoting the disbursement of public investment.

In the current economic context, the Prime Minister directed the banking sector to give top priority to the goal of macroeconomic stability and inflation control, thereby creating a foundation to promote rapid, sustainable growth and enhance the resilience of the economy.

Previously, at the Congress, Governor of the State Bank Nguyen Thi Hong affirmed that the 9th Patriotic Emulation Congress of the banking sector is an important milestone to summarize the emulation results of the 2020-2025 period, recognize the contributions of typical advanced collectives and individuals; at the same time, orient the emulation tasks of the new period, towards building a modern, integrated, effective and sustainable banking sector.

"This is an important political event of special significance, a great festival of the entire Vietnamese banking industry - a place to gather, recognize, commend and honor heroic collectives, emulation fighters, typical advanced examples, outstanding and comprehensive factors in the patriotic emulation movement of the banking industry," Governor Nguyen Thi Hong emphasized.

Referring to the emulation tradition, the Governor pointed out that since its establishment on May 6, 1951, with its role as the lifeblood of the economy, the banking sector has always kept in mind and implemented President Ho Chi Minh's teachings: "Emulation is patriotism, patriotism requires emulation," "Everyone competes, every industry competes" to strive, enthusiastically compete, unite, be responsible, creative, and strive to excellently complete all assigned political tasks.

Appreciating the efforts of the entire industry in the recent period, the Governor affirmed: "Over the past five years, despite facing many difficulties and challenges, the entire banking industry has promoted the spirit of solidarity, made efforts to overcome all difficulties and challenges, strived to excellently complete all assigned political tasks, making an important contribution to controlling inflation, stabilizing the macro-economy and promoting economic recovery and strong development."

The achievements of the banking industry in the past 5 years have contributed to the socio-economic development of the country and have been highly appreciated by the Party, State, Government and people. In the period of 2020-2025, more than 64,000 collectives and individuals in the industry have been recognized by the Party, State, Government and Governor, and awarded many noble awards: Labor Hero Title, Independence Medal, Labor Medal of all ranks, National Emulation Fighter Title, Government Emulation Flag, State Bank Emulation Flag, along with tens of thousands of Certificates of Merit, Medals and other forms of awards.

Within the framework of the Congress, the Organizing Committee awarded emulation titles and State and industry-level rewards to the State Bank collective and a number of outstanding individuals with outstanding achievements in their work.

Specifically, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, on behalf of the Party and State leaders, presented the First Class Labor Medal to the State Bank of Vietnam. Former Deputy Governor Dao Minh Tu was honored to be awarded the Second Class Independence Medal.

Governor Nguyen Thi Hong and Deputy Governor Pham Thanh Ha were honored to receive the First Class Labor Medal.

Deputy Governor Doan Thai Son and Deputy Governor Pham Tien Dung received the title of National Emulation Fighter. Deputy Governor Pham Quang Dung received a Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister.

Also at the Congress, the Governor of the State Bank launched an emulation movement in the entire industry for the 2026-2030 period with the theme "The banking industry competes to innovate, be creative, and pioneer with the country to enter an era of strong, civilized, and prosperous development."

Within the framework of the Congress, the State Bank donated 150 billion VND from officials, civil servants, public employees and workers of the banking sector to support the people of the Central Highlands region who suffered losses due to floods, responding to the call of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front. This is an activity demonstrating the spirit of sharing, community responsibility and the tradition of charity of the banking sector./.
