On the afternoon of December 19, at the Government Headquarters, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc met with General Secretary and President of Laos Bounnhang Vorachith, who is on an official friendship visit to Vietnam.

On behalf of the Government and people of Vietnam, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc expressed his pleasure at welcoming General Secretary and President Bounnhang Vorachith to visit Vietnam again, bringing to the Vietnamese people close comradely and brotherly feelings.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc expressed his joy at the success of the Vietnam-Laos Solidarity and Friendship Year 2017; and expressed his belief that through the rich and practical activities of the Year of Solidarity and Friendship, the people of the two countries will see more clearly their responsibility and be aware of protecting, preserving and developing the close, loyal and pure relationship between the two parties, two states and peoples, for the bright future of the two nations, for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

In the spirit and momentum of the Year of Solidarity and Friendship, over the past year, the two governments have made efforts to direct ministries, branches, localities and enterprises to actively implement the Vietnam-Laos joint statements, agreements between the two countries' senior leaders and cooperation agreements and agreements between the two governments at the 39th meeting of the Vietnam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee, as well as cooperation programs and plans of the two sides; making practical contributions to maintaining political stability, socio-economic development and international integration of each country.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc affirmed that the Vietnamese Government will continue to do its utmost, closely coordinate with the Lao Government, actively implement the Vietnam-Laos joint statements, agreements between the two countries' senior leaders and cooperation agreements and agreements between the two governments as well as cooperation programs and plans of the two sides, and prepare well for the 40th meeting of the Vietnam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee on Cooperation, to practically contribute to maintaining political stability, socio-economic development and international integration of each country.

Lao General Secretary and President Bounnhang Vorachith expressed his pleasure in returning to visit Vietnam and sincerely thanked the leaders of the Party, State, Government and people of Vietnam for their respectful and thoughtful welcome and sincere and warm feelings towards the Lao delegation.

Lao General Secretary and President Bounnhang Vorachith highly appreciated the close coordination and effective and practical work of the two Governments in the past time, in a frank spirit, to review and comprehensively assess what has been done and what has not been done in implementing the contents of the agreements between the high-ranking leaders of the two parties and two countries and agreed to direct the resolution of difficulties and obstacles in implementing key projects, as well as remaining issues in the cooperative relationship between the two countries; suggested that the two Governments continue to promote the achieved results, strengthen coordination and effectively direct the implementation of the contents of the agreements between the high-ranking leaders of the two parties and two countries in order to further promote the comprehensive cooperation relationship, commensurate with the potential, strengths as well as the special friendship, solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two parties, two states and peoples.

In particular, Lao General Secretary and President Bounnhang Vorachith expressed his wish and welcomed Vietnam to strengthen cooperation and support Laos in focusing on agricultural development to fully exploit Laos' potential and strengths; sincerely thanked the Vietnamese Government for creating conditions for Laos to use Vung Ang port so that Lao goods can reach the sea.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc sincerely thanked Lao Party General Secretary and President Bounnhang Vorachith and the Politburo of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party for regularly directing the Lao Government in implementing cooperation programs with the Vietnamese Government; affirmed that he will direct the Vietnamese Government to actively implement agreements between the two countries and take effective measures to overcome difficulties and shortcomings in bilateral economic cooperation.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc sincerely thanked the Lao Party and State for awarding the noble Medal to the Prime Minister and senior leaders of Vietnam on the occasion of the Vietnam-Laos Solidarity and Friendship Year 2017; and sincerely thanked the Lao Party, State and people for their timely encouragement, sharing, support and assistance to the people of the central provinces of Vietnam that were heavily affected by recent storms and floods.
