On the afternoon of May 9, right after arriving in Labuan Bajo, Indonesia to attend the 42nd ASEAN Summit, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had a bilateral meeting with Indonesian President Joko Widodo.
At the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh thanked the host country Indonesia for its warm and thoughtful welcome, highly appreciated Indonesia's choice of Labuan Bajo as the venue for the 42nd ASEAN Summit and believed that the Summit would be a milestone for the city to develop prosperously in the future.

The Prime Minister recalled his impressions of his first overseas trip as Prime Minister to Indonesia in 2021 and affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to and wishes to further promote the Strategic Partnership with Indonesia.
The two leaders highly appreciated the strong developments in all fields in recent times; agreed to further promote the traditional and close friendship, creating momentum to bring the Vietnam - Indonesia Strategic Partnership to new heights; believed that the relationship between the two countries is strategic, not only for the two countries but also contributing to peace, stability and development in the region.
On this occasion, the Prime Minister conveyed the greetings of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, President Vo Van Thuong and National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue to President Widodo.
The two leaders agreed to increase delegation exchanges and contacts at all levels, practically celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Strategic Partnership in 2023; effectively promote bilateral cooperation mechanisms, including the Vietnam - Indonesia Bilateral Cooperation Committee and the Joint Committee on Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation; actively implement signed agreements, including the Action Program for the 2019 - 2023 period to implement the Vietnam - Indonesia Strategic Partnership and soon build the Action Program for the 2024 - 2028 period, creating a basis to promote more comprehensive and extensive cooperation between the two countries.
Indonesian President Joko Widodo highly appreciated and supported the cooperation proposals of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh; affirmed that Indonesia always attaches importance to and further strengthens the Strategic Partnership with Vietnam.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that the two countries maintain the momentum of trade growth, striving to bring bilateral trade turnover to 15 billion USD or higher before 2028 and towards a more balanced direction; asked Indonesia to facilitate Vietnamese goods to access the Indonesian market; strengthen maritime cooperation, including the implementation of a hotline to support fishing activities and sharing information on law enforcement at sea.
The Indonesian President highly appreciated and supported the cooperation proposals of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh; affirmed that Indonesia always attaches importance to and further strengthens the Strategic Partnership with Vietnam. The two leaders also agreed to strengthen cooperation in new areas such as energy transition, digital transformation and infrastructure.
The two leaders discussed regional and international issues of mutual concern. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that Vietnam will continue to cooperate with and support Indonesia in successfully assuming the role of ASEAN Chair in 2023, contributing to strengthening solidarity, unity, self-reliance and the central role of ASEAN.
Regarding the East Sea issue, the two leaders reaffirmed their support for maintaining solidarity, centrality and common stance of ASEAN on the East Sea issue; fully implementing the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), promoting the early achievement of an effective and efficient Code of Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (COC) in accordance with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
On this occasion, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his wish that President Widodo will soon visit Vietnam again.
