The official delegation accompanying Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on the working trip included: Minister and Chairman of the Government Office Tran Van Son; Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son; Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung; Minister of Finance Ho Duc Phoc; Minister of Transport Nguyen Van Thang; Chairman of the State Capital Management Committee at Enterprises Nguyen Hoang Anh; Deputy Minister of National Defense Le Huy Vinh; Deputy Minister of Public Security Nguyen Duy Ngoc; Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Le Cong Thanh; Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Pham Quang Hieu.
The Group of Seven (G7) of industrialized countries, including the UK, the US, Germany, Japan, France, Canada and Italy, collectively owns more than half of the world's wealth; regularly accounting for about 30% of global GDP.
The G7 Summit is held annually to discuss, promote and resolve global issues from economics, politics and society. The expanded G7 Summit is held within the framework of the G7 Summit to strongly promote the participation and contribution of developing countries, and strengthen the G7 partnership with developing countries in addressing global challenges.
The 49th G7 Summit will take place from May 19 to 22 in Hiroshima, Japan, with the expanded G7 Summit taking place from May 20 to 21.
This expanded G7 summit was attended by eight countries (including Vietnam, South Korea, India, Indonesia, Brazil, Comoros, Cook Islands and Ukraine) and six international organizations (including the United Nations, European Union, World Bank, International Monetary Fund, Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development and Asian Development Bank).
The expanded G7 Summit includes three sessions, with the following themes: “Cooperation in handling multiple crises;” “Joint efforts for a sustainable planet” and “Towards a peaceful, stable and prosperous world.”
The expanded G7 Summit is expected to adopt the “Hiroshima Action Agenda for Self-Reliant Global Food Security.” This is the first time the expanded G7 Summit has adopted a joint document.
As the Chair of the G7 in 2023, Japan invited Vietnam to attend this expanded G7 Summit, which is also the third time Vietnam has attended the expanded G7 Summit, showing the importance of Japan in particular and the G7 Group in general to Vietnam's position and role in the region.
In particular, 2023 is the year Vietnam - Japan celebrates the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations.
The Prime Minister's working trip to Japan will contribute to further strengthening trust and promoting the development of bilateral relations; at the same time, promoting key cooperation contents such as economy, trade, investment, new generation ODA, high-quality infrastructure, green transformation, energy transformation, etc.; enhancing coordination, sharing stances, and cooperation on regional and international issues of mutual concern.
