During his visit and work in Sweden, on the morning of June 12 (local time), Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited and delivered a policy speech at Stockholm University of Economics.
Dr. Sophie Roy, Vice-Chancellor of Stockholm School of Economics, said that the school has excellent training programs and research that meets international standards, and is one of the leading business schools in the Nordic and Baltic regions. In particular, 3 Nobel Prizes have been awarded to the school's researchers. Many people from this university have become senior leaders. In addition, the school is also honored to welcome many leaders of other countries to visit and deliver policy speeches.
According to Ms. Sophie Roy, Sweden and Vietnam have a long-standing good relationship. In which, research andeducation play a key role in promoting sustainable development, innovation and mutual understanding.
She affirmed that Stockholm University of Economics is very excited about the upcoming cooperation between the two countries and said that the school currently has a number of Vietnamese students studying there. She hopes to welcome more Vietnamese students in the future.
Delivering a policy speech to professors, lecturers and students of Stockholm University of Economics, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his impression of the school's educational philosophy, encapsulated in the word "Freedom." This is also the word that President Ho Chi Minh mentioned in the Declaration of Independence on September 2, 1945 in the phrase "Independence - Freedom - Happiness."
Reviewing the historical process of fighting for national independence, unification, construction and development of the country, the Prime Minister expressed his emotion when Sweden presented Vietnam with the precious documentary film "Vietnam Victory", which shows the scene of Swedish people taking to the streets to celebrate the April 30 victory of the Vietnamese people as if it were their own victory.
Noting that the Prime Minister's visit to Sweden this time takes place at a time of special significance, right on the occasion of Vietnam celebrating important historical milestones such as the 80th anniversary of the founding of the country, the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South, the reunification of the country and the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the European Union (EU), Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that on that difficult but resilient journey, the Government and people of Sweden have always been present as a loyal, close and affectionate friend to Vietnam.
Recalling historical milestones and Sweden's gestures towards Vietnam, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh recalled that in Stockholm nearly 6 decades ago (in 1968), the late Prime Minister Olof Palme held a torch and led a march against the war in Vietnam. This is a symbol that lives forever in the hearts of the Vietnamese people as well as the beautiful memories of the Swedish people.
On April 30, 1975, also in the capital Stockholm, Swedish people took to the streets to celebrate the historic victory of completely liberating the South and unifying the country of the Vietnamese people.
In the memory of many Vietnamese people, Sweden is a living symbol of kindness and sincere help. The Swedish Children's Hospital, Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital, and Bai Bang Paper Factory have become indelible symbols in the hearts of Vietnamese people.
Believing that profound yet romantic and meaningful melodies and songs like ABBA's "Happy New Year" have resonated through many generations and are timeless messages of connection, becoming a part of the beautiful youth and New Year's greetings of many generations of Vietnamese people, the Prime Minister believes that his visit this time will be a new symbol for the relationship between the two countries, so that the two peoples can be connected from the past, present to the future.
Summarizing the current world and regional situation, the Prime Minister stated that the world situation continues to evolve in a complex, unpredictable manner, with profound and comprehensive changes, many issues are unprecedented and beyond forecast. Overall, there is peace but there are local wars; overall, there is reconciliation but there are local tensions; overall, there is stability but there are local conflicts.
In current international relations, there are six major contradictions: between war and peace; cooperation and competition; openness, integration and independence, autonomy, protection; solidarity, association and separation, demarcation, fragmentation; development and backwardness; autonomy and dependence.
Therefore, the Prime Minister believes that every country in the world needs to strengthen solidarity, promote multilateralism; have both cooperation and struggle; exploit commonalities, limit disagreements, and look towards the future.
The Prime Minister emphasized that in the new era of deep connection and integration - the era of intelligence, digital technology and innovation, the future of the world is being strongly impacted by three key factors and shaped and led by three pioneering fields.
The three main factors are: The explosive development of science and technology, innovation, especially digitalization and artificial intelligence (AI). The negative impact of traditional and non-traditional security challenges. The increasing trend of separation, division, and polarization in some areas under the impact of global geo-strategic and geo-economic competition.
The three areas shaping, leading and pioneering are: Developing digital economy, green economy, circular economy; Innovation, startups and the Fourth Industrial Revolution 4.0; Developing high-quality human resources and artificial intelligence (AI).
According to the Prime Minister, the above issues are all related to people, the whole people, comprehensively and globally. Therefore, it is necessary to have a mindset, methodology and approach to solve practical problems of a national, comprehensive and global nature; at the same time, make efforts to improve the ability to be self-reliant, self-reliant, share and connect resources, and together respond more flexibly and effectively to global issues.
After sharing the vision and main development orientation of Vietnam in the coming time, and mentioning the vision for the relationship between the two countries in the new era, the Prime Minister said that Vietnam and Sweden are facing a historic opportunity to rise up and affirm their roles as leading economies in the region, enhance the friendship and sustainable cooperation in the spirit of mutual benefit, contributing to peace, cooperation and development of Southeast Asia and Northern Europe, and more broadly, of Asia - Pacific and Europe.
To realize that vision and aspiration, according to the Prime Minister, the two countries need to jointly implement breakthroughs: Breakthroughs in political and diplomatic relations; Promote common values, political trust and deep friendship between the two countries; Provide major orientations for the development of bilateral relations, creating new momentum for the Vietnam - Sweden relationship to become increasingly substantive and effective, especially in the fields of science and technology, innovation, sustainable development...
According to the Prime Minister, in an increasingly unstable and uncertain world, the two countries need to continue to promote multilateral cooperation, promote respect for and implementation of the United Nations Charter and international law; promote dialogue, reconciliation and seek peaceful solutions to disputes and conflicts.
“Vietnam is ready to join Sweden in promoting peace, cooperation and development in Southeast Asia and Northern Europe, contributing to making the ASEAN-EU Strategic Partnership increasingly deeper, more effective and more substantive,” the Prime Minister affirmed.
At the same time, create a breakthrough in economic, trade, investment and development cooperation, commensurate with the level of relations and economic position of the two countries. Vietnam commits to effectively implementing the Vietnam - EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) with Sweden to promote connectivity, open markets for each other; and soon bring the Vietnam - EU Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) into effect. The two countries strive to have more typical works and projects for the new period of cooperation, and replicate successful Swedish enterprises in Vietnam.
The two countries need to create a breakthrough in cooperation in the fields of science and technology, innovation, digital transformation, and green transformation, considering this a new driving force for bilateral cooperation. In particular, it is necessary to urgently implement and concretize the strategic partnership on science, technology, and innovation that will be established during this visit.
Vietnam and Sweden have jointly created breakthroughs in people-to-people exchanges, culture, arts, tourism, and cooperation in local development, creating favorable conditions for citizens of the two countries to study and live in the host country, especially with preferential visa policies and special visas for a number of priority subjects and high-quality human resources.
Thanking the Swedish Government and people for always caring and creating favorable conditions for the community of more than 22,000 Vietnamese people in Sweden to stabilize their lives, integrate and actively contribute to the socio-economic development of the host country, the Prime Minister emphasized that after nearly 6 decades of companionship, cooperation and development, the two countries have a lot to talk about, stories to tell, and many programs to act on; Vietnam will forever be a loyal friend, accompanying Sweden; the two countries are always proud of each other's fine traditions; moving forward together, exploiting favorable points, thereby building two strong and prosperous countries.
