Respect friendly neighborly relations
Mayor Gong Zheng warmly welcomed Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha and the Vietnamese Government delegation to attend the 6th CIIE in Shanghai, in the context that in 2023 the two countries will celebrate the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, and the relations between the two Parties and the two countries have developed well in all fields in recent times.
Spending a lot of time introducing to Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha and the delegation the potentials, strengths and important development achievements of Shanghai city in recent times, especially in terms of innovation and transformation of the development model, Mayor Gong Zheng said that the city's GDP in 2022 will reach approximately 660 billion USD, ranking 5th in the list of the world's leading cities in terms of economic scale; GDP in the first 9 months of 2023 grew by 6% and is expected to reach over 5.5% this year; the main drivers of growth are investment, export and consumption, all of which have grown steadily.
Mayor Gong Zheng emphasized that, implementing the strategic orientation set by the Central Committee of China, Shanghai is accelerating the completion of the goal of building five leading centers of China and the world in economics, trade, finance, transportation and science and technology and has achieved many important achievements in all five aspects, especially in finance and currency, maritime transport and scientific and technological innovation.
Expressing the importance of the friendly neighborly relationship, comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between China and Vietnam and the direction of developing the relationship according to the high-level common perception, Mayor Gong Zheng affirmed his desire to further promote cooperation with Vietnamese localities, proposing three key areas to be promoted in the coming time: enhancing sustainable trade exchanges; expanding cooperation in production capacity and deepening cultural, educational cooperation, people-to-people exchange, especially among the young generation, thereby contributing to consolidating and continuously promoting the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries.

At the reception, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha thanked the Party Committee, Government and people of Shanghai for their warm and friendly welcome to the Vietnamese Government delegation; warmly congratulated and highly appreciated Shanghai's outstanding socio-economic development achievements in recent years, especially in the pilot implementation of many new reform and opening-up policies of China.
Emphasizing the important role of Shanghai in the development of China and the world economy, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha said that international trade promotion initiatives such as the CIIE have contributed to promoting global trade growth, promoting digital transformation and green transformation. The Deputy Prime Minister also congratulated Shanghai on its important progress in transforming its growth model from a traditional model based on resources and labor to one based on science, technology and knowledge economy.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha affirmed Vietnam's consistent policy of strengthening the friendly neighborly relationship and comprehensive cooperation, "both comrades and brothers" with China, which was built and nurtured by President Ho Chi Minh, Chairman Mao Zedong and generations of revolutionary predecessors of the two countries. The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that the Vietnamese Government always attaches importance to and is ready to support and create conditions to strengthen the friendly cooperation between localities of the two countries, especially localities with traditional relations and great potential for cooperation such as Shanghai city.
Expressing his approval and appreciation for Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng's proposal on key areas in the coming time, the Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that the potential and space for cooperation between Vietnamese and Shanghai localities are very open. The Deputy Prime Minister suggested that Shanghai closely coordinate with Vietnamese ministries, branches and localities to concretize the high-level common perceptions of the two Parties and countries; maintain regular exchanges and contacts; continue to effectively promote existing cooperation mechanisms, especially the friendly cooperation between Shanghai and Ho Chi Minh City and some other localities of Vietnam such as Hanoi and Hai Phong; make the most of each side's potential and strengths, further enhance the effectiveness of economic-trade, investment and tourism cooperation; apply trade facilitation measures, create conditions for Vietnamese goods to be exported to Shanghai; enhance sharing and exchanging experiences in urban development and management, innovation, investment attraction, and monetary finance.
Emphasizing the importance of people-to-people exchange, the Deputy Prime Minister hoped that both sides would further enhance cultural exchange activities and interactions between social organizations, especially the young generations of the two countries, thereby inheriting and promoting the precious traditional friendship, consolidating a good social foundation for the relationship between the two Parties and the two countries, for the benefit of the people, for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
