The Central Maternity Hospital needs to promote scientific research linked to clinical practice, technological breakthroughs in fetal medicine and neonatal care, taking innovation as the driving force for development.
Deputy Minister of Health Tran Van Thuan emphasized this at the 70th Anniversary Ceremony (July 19, 1955 - July 19, 2025) of the Central Maternity Hospital and the reception of noble awards from the Party and State, which took place on July 18 in Hanoi.
Implement in-depth research directions
Speaking at the ceremony, Professor Tran Van Thuan emphasized that seven decades - a journey of continuous progress, associated with the development of the modern medical industry and the cause of reproductive health care, maternal and child health in Vietnam, the Central Obstetrics Hospital is not only the source of life but also the place where intelligence, courage and aspiration for dedication converge. Advanced techniques, complex cases, valuable scientific research projects, all bear the mark of a collective of consensus, innovation, aspiration to serve and pioneer on the path of integration.
Through many challenges, the hospital has affirmed its role as a leading specialized center, responsible for training, transferring techniques, researching and building professional standards in obstetrics and gynecology for the whole country.

The Deputy Minister of Health requested the hospital to continue investing in developing a team of obstetricians and gynecologists, scientists, educators, and health administrators with a comprehensive vision and an integrated mindset. The hospital needs to create an academic ecosystem so that every doctor, every staff member, and employee is encouraged to learn throughout their lives, has access to advanced technology, participates in international research, and strives for the highest professional standards, academic titles, and degrees.
“Obstetrics and gynecology should be one of the pioneering fields in the application of precision medicine, artificial intelligence, cell technology and genetic engineering. Hospitals need to carry out in-depth research directions, from the fields of prevention, prenatal screening and diagnosis, assisted reproduction, to neonatal care and fetal intervention. Each scientific research needs to be associated with improving practice, reducing the burden of disease and improving the quality of life for Vietnamese women and children,” Professor Tran Van Thuan pointed out.
In particular, the hospital needs to expand international cooperation in a substantial manner, proactively integrate to improve expertise and spread the image of Vietnamese healthcare. The hospital needs to continue to build strategic cooperation with the world's leading medical centers, participate in regional academic networks, organize inter-institutional and inter-national conferences and research, and gradually form high-quality medical service models, aiming to develop specialized medical tourism in the field of reproductive health care.
Recognizing many achievements
Sharing about the 70-year journey and future vision of the Hospital, Professor Nguyen Duy Anh - Director of the Central Maternity Hospital emphasized that the hospital is not only a medical facility but also a place where life is revived, a cradle to nurture small creatures. Patients put all their trust in doctors, entrusting both their health and life, therefore, doctors have the responsibility not only to treat them faster and more effectively, but also to preserve as much as possible the precious functions they have.

The Director of the Central Obstetrics Hospital also affirmed: “I believe that today’s and future generations will continue to realize this great aspiration - to build an advanced, modern hospital that is not inferior to any obstetrics and gynecology facility in the world. The Vietnamese people deserve to have access to the most modern medical techniques, to be cared for with the best methods, with all the dedication of the medical profession.”
In the new phase, the Hospital is gradually transforming comprehensively towards modernity - humanity - integration, towards a smart hospital model, taking patients as the center, promoting digital transformation, applying technology and artificial intelligence in medical examination and treatment, management and research. The key goals in the coming phase include modernizing facilities, investing in technical spearheads, enhancing digital transformation, standardizing professional processes according to international standards, improving service quality and developing high-quality human resources.
In particular, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of its establishment, the Hospital was honored to receive the Third Class Labor Medal from the President for its outstanding achievements in successfully applying the non-invasive Surfactant injection method in the treatment of extremely low birth weight premature infants, contributing to reducing infant mortality and improving the protection and care of maternal and child health; awarded the Prime Minister's Certificate of Merit; and the title of Excellent Physician to outstanding collectives and individuals of the Central Maternity Hospital.

The Central Maternity Hospital was established on July 19, 1955 under Decree No. 615-ZYO/ND/3A. Through stages of development and name changes from Hospital C (1960) to the Institute for the Protection of Mothers and Newborns (1966) and officially becoming the Central Maternity Hospital in 2003, the Hospital has affirmed its role as a Grade I Hospital, a leading specialty under the Ministry of Health.
With its noble mission, the Hospital undertakes the functions of examination, emergency, treatment, disease prevention, scientific research, staff training, line guidance and international cooperation. Up to now, the Hospital has developed with 02 facilities, of which the main facility is at 1 Trieu Quoc Dat and the second facility is in the process of completion in Quoc Oai district (Hanoi). The hospital's equipment system is invested synchronously and modernly, especially testing machines for prenatal diagnosis and newborn screening, ensuring high efficiency in medical examination and treatment./.
In order to recognize outstanding achievements in professional work, training, scientific research and serving the people, the Party and State have decided to award:
- Third Class Labor Medal awarded to: Central Maternity Hospital; Department of Gynecological Oncology.
- Third-class Labor Medal was awarded to individuals: Associate Professor Vu Van Du - Deputy Director of the Hospital; Dr. Dang Thi Hong Thien - Head of General Planning Department; Dr. Nguyen Van Thang - Head of Gynecological Oncology Department.
- Certificates of Merit from the Prime Minister were awarded to the following groups and individuals: Department of Organization and Personnel; Obstetrics Department; Professor Nguyen Duy Anh - Director of the Hospital; Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Ha - Deputy Director of the Hospital.
