Promoting professional, modern and sustainable Vietnamese sports

(CPV) - On the morning of October 17, the Vietnam Sports Economic Forum 2024 officially opened in Hanoi. The forum was initiated and organized by Vietcontent Company, with the support of the Department of Physical Training and Sports under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Vietnam Olympic Committee.

The 2024 Sports Economic Forum with the theme "Promoting the potential of Sports Economy in the new era" includes 3 main discussion sessions, focusing on core issues of the sports industry including: "Relationship between state management agencies, national sports associations and organizers"; "Economic impact of organizing major sporting events"; "Exploiting the commercial value of sports tournaments". From the discussion sessions, the Organizing Committee will seek and build effective solutions to develop the country's sports industry professionally, modernly and sustainably.

Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong attended and opened the Forum.

Accordingly, discussion session 1 helps assess the current legal environment, the advantages and difficulties of agencies and organizations in implementing sports activities to propose creating a favorable environment, promoting sports economic activities; maximizing the use of the non-public sector in sports activities in the spirit of Conclusion No. 70-KL/TW of the Politburo dated January 31, 2024. The main discussion contents include legal issues surrounding the management and organization of domestic and international sports activities (coordination mechanism between relevant parties); the role of national sports associations in high-performance sports, professional sports and grassroots sports; policies on management and use of sports infrastructure to promote local resources and encourage the development of sports activities.

Discussion session 2 addressed the economic impact of organizing major sporting events on the locality and host unit. Currently, large-scale sporting events continue to receive attention from many countries around the world, bringing many benefits from this activity. In order to maximize benefits and minimize risks, through this discussion session, it helps localities and host units to be aware, prepare carefully, plan in detail, and coordinate closely with functional agencies to help find appropriate and effective directions for their locality and unit. The main contents discussed include the host position - benefits and challenges; how to host a major sporting event; the role of state management agencies in deciding to host a major sporting event (awareness, policies, support, etc.); long-term commercial benefits from developing local brands through sporting activities and events.

Discussion session 3 focuses on the content of exploiting the commercial value and benefits surrounding a sports tournament. Organizing a sports tournament brings many diverse benefits, not only to athletes and fans but also to the community and the economy. Through this discussion session, associations, units and organizations involved will have a better understanding of how to exploit the commercial value from sports tournaments most effectively. The main contents discussed include fan participation and consumption through the tournament; approaches, necessary and sufficient conditions, benefits from broadcasting rights and online services; lessons from C1 - the world's largest club football tournament.

The 2024 Sports Economic Forum has received much attention and support from relevant ministries and branches, gathering valuable views, opinions and experiences from organizations and individuals on issues of management and development of Vietnam's sports economy. Opinions at the Forum will be recorded by the Organizing Committee, serving as a basis for proposing policies and strategies for developing Vietnam's sports economy; helping businesses to be more proactive when participating in Vietnam's sports economic market in the coming time./.
