E-commerce leads digital transformation in businesses

Việt NamViệt Nam13/12/2024

E-commerce is a popular form of business and requires business entities and units in the digital age to always adapt to suit customer needs.

Through e-commerce, businesses also expand their domestic market share, export markets, rapidly increase sales and enhance brand recognition in foreign markets... However, many businesses still do not see the risks of not integrating into digital transformation because if they ignore it, they will fall behind and create a gap with the market and consumers. Therefore, to effectively take advantage of digital transformation, in addition to a favorable legal corridor, many opinions say that businesses must proactively adapt to market regulations and consider green factors and sustainable development.

According to the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ), over the past time, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has always accompanied businesses and organizations in the process of digital transformation through policy implementation. Thereby, in order to develop a healthy competitive e-commerce market, build an ecosystem to support businesses to effectively apply e-commerce to business, adapt to new business and technology trends. Moreover, in the context of a volatile global market, flexibility and readiness to transform are the keys to sustainable business development.

Statistics show that e-commerce has become a key driver in the digital economy with an impressive growth rate of 25% in 2023 and is expected to account for 10% of total retail sales by 2025. This process not only opens up great opportunities but also encourages businesses to quickly adapt and make important strides.

Mr. Tran Quoc Bao, Deputy General Director of KIDO Group and Executive Director of E2E e-commerce channel (under KIDO Group) shared: In the first 3 months of applying online sales, businesses were worried and uncertain about the results from e-commerce. But up to now, the majority of businesses' revenue comes from e-commerce, proving that this is a successful direction.

It is the participation in e-commerce that has helped KIDO achieve encouraging results. The goal of participating in e-commerce is to increase product coverage and do marketing activities. With the e-commerce platform on Scom, KIDO reaches new customers on social networks to get a customer base that keeps up with product trends.

As an e-commerce platform, Mr. Nguyen Lam Thanh - representative of TikTok Vietnam, Vice President of Vietnam Digital Communications Association said that when deploying the TikTok application platform and TikTok Shop, the goal was to support the state, businesses and workers to stand firm in the digital transformation era and bring Vietnamese goods closer to consumers.

The implementation of the OCOP market program - one product per commune has honored Vietnamese agricultural products, erasing the digital gap between rural and urban areas. The implementation of this program also guides people to organize a livestream session every Saturday to introduce and reach 5 million people quite successfully.

In June 2024, the program was expanded to the name of the program "Proud of Vietnamese Goods". TikTok has coordinated with associations to help manufacturing enterprises enjoy platform incentives such as sales support. In 6 months, support 10,000 enterprises, post and put on the TikTok Shop platform hashtags such as "Proud of Vietnamese Goods" or "OCOP"...

As a partner of the Ministry of Industry and Trade in organizing programs, TikTok also commits to accompany the e-commerce program and the Ministry of Industry and Trade to introduce as many products of Vietnamese manufacturers to the consumer community as possible. Thereby, building an alliance of industry associations, businesses and state agencies to build an alliance to protect consumers in choosing good products at reasonable prices, and working with the Government to ensure revenue and reinvestment.

Ms. Hoang Thi Tan, Director of Tam Tra Thai Cooperative, said: In recent times, the cooperative has actively promoted its products on online platforms such as Zalo, TikTok, Facebook and website. Because this form of sales is an opportunity to bring the products of the cooperative and its members to customers across the country. The market has been expanded, and agricultural production and trading have achieved higher efficiency. Currently, about 40% of the cooperative's output has been consumed through digital platforms.

Similarly, the application of digital transformation in production and business activities such as integrating multi-channel sales, using FaceFarm production diary software, MISA accounting software and Sapo sales software has helped La Bang Tea Cooperative achieve many advantages in production and sales. At the same time, the cooperative has connected with many businesses and partners nationwide, directly contributing more than 20% to total revenue. In addition, the cooperative regularly sends staff and members to visit and learn about development models inside and outside the province, participate in training courses to improve information technology skills, thereby promptly adapting to the trends of the times.

The application of information technology and digital transformation is also opening up breakthrough opportunities for the collective economic sector and cooperatives in Thai Binh. With more than 800 cooperatives and cooperative groups across the province, Thai Binh is strongly promoting supply-demand connections, improving competitiveness and building sustainable value chains for typical products.

According to Chairman of the Thai Binh Provincial Cooperative Union Tran Van Toan, in 2024, the Thai Binh Provincial Cooperative Union will focus on promoting the application of information technology and digital transformation, building profiles and managing OCOP product data (One Commune One Product Program), digitizing the process of receiving profiles, scoring, and classifying products; digitizing products and building a traceability system according to the value chain, aiming to connect the OCOP program database system.

In the coming time, the Thai Binh Provincial Cooperative Union will actively seek and expand markets, support cooperatives from processing to product consumption; regularly organize conferences connecting supply and demand, especially focusing resources on supporting cooperatives to promote and promote trade in the digital environment.

According to experts, Vietnam is one of the countries with an average e-commerce growth rate of 25% per year, among the top in the ASEAN region. If cooperatives and enterprises do not seize the opportunity to develop e-commerce at each time, it will be difficult to grow in the digital age.

In fact, selling goods through e-commerce channels has helped cooperatives and businesses increase product coverage that traditional sales methods have not achieved. E-commerce not only helps businesses but also helps them reach online customers, thereby gaining customer base and market trends. However, many businesses and cooperatives have not taken advantage of the opportunity to develop and expand the market. Therefore, it is necessary to have a clear roadmap to be able to break through and gain efficiency from e-commerce.

Ms. Lai Viet Anh - Deputy Director of the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy said: The current growth rate of e-commerce is quite hot, so it may be accompanied by issues of competition, counterfeit goods, intellectual property violations and uneven participation of enterprises. In addition, e-commerce transactions are mainly concentrated in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Therefore, local Departments of Industry and Trade need to coordinate with the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy to have measures to support enterprises to bring Vietnamese goods to the digital environment and promote competitiveness with foreign enterprises.

Regarding the future direction of e-commerce, according to Ms. Lai Viet Anh, it is necessary to develop human resources and sustainable e-commerce. This requires a balance between the interests of consumers and businesses, large businesses and small businesses, domestic businesses and foreign businesses... Thereby, creating an equal balance and especially between the goal of economic growth and social and environmental goals.
