Tien Linh affirmed that coach Le Huynh Duc is a legend of Vietnamese football, and he sees working with Huynh Duc as an opportunity to improve.

"Tomorrow is the first match in the second leg of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers for the Vietnamese team. After the match against Nepal, we have been practicing hard to play better than tomorrow's match. We are eager and determined to play even better," striker Nguyen Tien Linh shared at a press conference on the afternoon of October 13, before playing Nepal again in the fourth round.

The Vietnamese team will compete against Nepal at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow at Thong Nhat Stadium (HCMC), with the goal of winning 3 points to continue chasing Malaysia. According to Tien Linh, the Vietnamese team needs to win to show gratitude to the audience, especially when it has been 3 years since they last played at Thong Nhat Stadium (the last time was in September 2022).

"Hopefully we will play well in front of the home crowd, after many months of returning to Thong Nhat Stadium. The goal of the Vietnamese team is 3 points," Tien Linh assessed.

With his goal against Nepal in the match on October 9, Tien Linh has scored 26 goals for the Vietnamese team. He is currently third in the list of goalscorers for the national team, only 1 goal behind Le Huynh Duc (second). According to Tien Linh, being able to pursue the record is not as important as the team's victory.

"Being third in the list of top scorers for the national team, I don't pay too much attention. Being able to play and contribute is already an honor for me. My goal is to play, contribute and enjoy with my teammates, whether in the national team or the club. As a striker, I want to score many goals to help the team win," Tien Linh commented.

The striker ranked above Tien Linh is Le Huynh Duc, who is his teacher at the Ho Chi Minh City Police Club. Previously, Tien Linh also played at Becamex Ho Chi Minh City in the 2023-2024 season under the guidance of teacher Huynh Duc.

Tien Linh tells young players: 'Contribute and enjoy'

Wearing the Vietnamese national team jersey in 2018, when he was only 21 years old, Tien Linh needed nearly a year to secure a starting position.

At this time, Tien Linh is a pillar of the national team. He and his fellow pillars have the mission of guiding the young players, so that the U.23 generation can easily follow in the future. According to Tien Linh, the players need to continue to make efforts and contribute to accumulate experience.

"In recent training sessions, the young players played with great determination and showed their desire. In the previous match, the young players (like Thanh Nhan and Dinh Bac) had the opportunity and played well. That was valuable experience for them. I want to tell the young players to go out on the field, enjoy themselves and contribute to the national team.

They will have more new experiences for the youth tournaments at the end of the year. I want the players to try their best and believe that they will do better than the coaching staff's expectations," the 28-year-old striker affirmed.
