“Indonesia is a strong team. They have many quality naturalized players and have just beaten Saudi Arabia. They are a candidate for the championship, but the Vietnamese team is also eager to regain its position in Southeast Asia,” striker Nguyen Tien Linh said in an interview before the Vietnamese team’s training session on the morning of November 22.
Indonesia won the Vietnam team 3 times in 2024. This team has made great progress thanks to the policy of naturalizing Dutch players of Indonesian origin.

The Vietnam team was assigned by the VFF to reach the final of the AFF Cup (ASEAN Cup) 2024. In the group stage, coach Kim Sang-sik and his team will face Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines and Indonesia. With their recent performance, the Indonesian team is considered the most formidable opponent of coach Kim Sang-sik and his team.
“Reaching the AFF Cup final is the mission of the whole team. The players wear the national team jersey, so it is our responsibility. Each player needs to be well prepared, both mentally and physically, to serve that mission. I think it is not too difficult to achieve this goal, if the whole team is comfortable and focused,” Tien Linh added.
On the morning of November 22, the Vietnamese team had its only training session at the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) youth training center. On the night of November 22, the Vietnamese team left for Gyeongju (South Korea) for training. Coach Kim Sang-sik and his team had three friendly matches against Ulsan Citizen, Daegu FC and Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors.
