The person who voluntarily handed over this animal is Mr. Ho Minh Nhat, a permanent resident of Thuan Hoa Ward, Phu Xuan District. After discovering the land dragon, Mr. Nhat suspected that it was a rare, precious wild animal, so he captured it and reported it to the forest rangers via the hotline with the wish to release it back into the wild.
Immediately after receiving the information, the rangers arrived at the scene, received the dragon in normal health condition; at the same time, took care of it and completed legal procedures to soon release it back to the natural environment according to regulations.
The land dragon, also known as the ky tom, has the scientific name Physignathus cocincinus. This is a rare and precious reptile species not only in Vietnam but also in Southeast Asian countries.
