After suffering a stroke, Ms. Huynh Phuong Dao was paralyzed on the left side of her body, and now she relies on her eldest daughter, Huynh Nga, for all her daily activities.
Huynh Nga (the eldest daughter of Ms. Huynh Phuong Dao) said emotionally, “Since my mother fell ill, our family's life has been very difficult, we've fallen into poverty and despair. Now I have to drop out of school to take care of my mother and my younger sibling. With the money from the Red Cross for my mother, I will use it to pay for her medicine, daily living expenses, and rent. I thank the Red Cross members for helping my mother and me.”
The program not only supports those with serious illnesses but also helps fulfill the dreams of poor but academically gifted students. Le Minh Nhat is one such case, receiving 10 million VND in support from the program.
Nhat is an orphan, having lost both parents, and currently lives with her grandmother in Tan Long hamlet, Hoa Binh commune. Her grandmother, 66 years old, suffers from various illnesses, yet she still travels the streets collecting scrap metal to make a living and support her granddaughter's education. Nhat and her grandmother were both happy and worried when Nhat learned she had been accepted into university, knowing that the coming years would be incredibly difficult as they would have to cover tuition and living expenses for four years of university.
Red Cross officials present financial assistance to Le Minh Nhat.
Le Minh Nhat expressed: “After receiving this support, I will use it to cover my tuition fees and living expenses. This will allow me to work harder in my studies and give me a chance to change my life. I am very grateful to the kind people who have cared for and helped me. Thank you so much. I will try my best to become a useful member of society and not let down your love and support.”
Ms. Mac Thi Hang, from the Communications and Resource Mobilization Department of the Provincial Red Cross Society, said: “In the coming time, the Provincial Red Cross Society will continue to cooperate with the Thien Tam Fund - Vingroup Group to provide support to vulnerable groups, poor households, near-poor households, and disadvantaged households. In addition, the Society will also implement scholarships for poor but studious students to provide them with more opportunities and motivation, giving them confidence in their studies and a better future.”
It is clear that for those in particularly difficult circumstances, suffering from serious illnesses, or poor students, receiving financial support is a lifeline, providing them with additional funds and motivation to treat their illnesses, prolong their lives, and open up more opportunities for the future. Above all, it represents the heartfelt compassion, care, and sharing of the sponsoring organizations and Red Cross officials, with the desire to help alleviate some of the difficulties faced by those in special circumstances and their families.
