Standards for the Sustainable Development Goals – A shared vision for a better world

October 14 of each year has been chosen by the world's three leading standards organizations, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) as World Standards Day to honor the contributions and cooperation of thousands of experts worldwide in standards development activities.

Since 2021, the heads of the world 's three leading international standardization organizations - ISO, IEC and ITU have agreed on the theme Standards for SDGs - Our shared vision for a better world as a multi-year journey, to demonstrate the role of standards in contributing tools to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with the call: "Now, we ask you to join us in a mission to affirm the importance of the Sustainable Development Goals to build a better world. In the pursuit of this goal, standards become more relevant and necessary than ever.

A shared vision for a better world: Focus on Sustainable Development Goal 17 – Partnership for the Goals

International standards are the foundation of global cooperation, ensuring compatibility, strengthening trust and promoting multi-stakeholder cooperation towards sustainable development.

This year, World Standards Day will focus on exploring how standards provide a common framework, enabling effective cooperation between industries, countries and organizations to achieve common goals.

The campaign will highlight concrete examples that demonstrate the power of partnerships and the positive impact of working together through standards.
